No not Maxwell Smart, but something called 2005 YU55, an asteroid.

On Tuesday night it will pass by the earth at a ditance of 300,000 kms, the closest for any notable rock since the mid 70's.

"If 2005 YU55 were to plow into the home planet, it would blast out a crater four miles across and 1,700 feet deep, according to Melosh’s calculations. Think a magnitude-7 earthquake and 70-foot-high tsunami waves."

the risks appear significantly less than those potentially posed by underwear bombers roaming the subways and airports of our fair cities, were it not for our troops risking their lives defending our freedoms oversees in third world sand pits.

Maybe if our troops were not killing people overseas for cheap oil underwear bombers would be less of a threat

Well considering the asteroid risk at this time is ZERO, you're really not sticking you neck out. As far as bombers in our fair city, you really have a memory problem and forgot about the 18 that nearly succeeded. Then again, unlike you, I've had first hand experience living in the mist of actual terrorist attacks in this country and you haven't a got a clue of the mind screwer that is, 50 mail/car bombs going off, any time any place in a period of 12 months.

Like I said you're clueless. At least you're consistent.

i'm referring to your alleged "first hand experiences.....blah blah blah.."

Since the asteroid risk is ZERO...what exactly was your point in posting this totally irrelevant piece of information??????

Sorry ass hat . I lived in Montreal during the FLQ crisis, as have a few other members of this BB. Read up on it and learn something for a change. I was a senior in high school. Pierre LaPorte's family lived three houses from me and my families profile meant that we were also a target for these kind of actions. Therefore the threat of danger was very much at my door step.

Your idiocy clearly has almost no bounds.

My original OP might not be of interest to you with your level of mental atrophy, but some on this board find things extra terrestrial noteworthy. THe threat was not the point, just the fact that something like this doesn't happen often. Back in your crate and chew on your blanket, you'll be happier.

As I said, things you're not aware of, and there's truckloads of that stuff, may be of interest to others. Get over it.

Exactly one post (now two) in this thread are actually about the asteroid. I think it's cool that it's coming as close as it is given the vastness of space the the expansiveness of time.
