Ok, this has a nice retro feel to it, back to that notorious McLulan thread (where a bet was made and lost).

So here it is, will Obama attack Iran during his first term?

Nope.

It would take an all out attack from Iran first before he would do that.

Well, if there is compelling evidence that Iran did indeed try and kill a Saudi ambassador, the Saudis have plenty of Yankee hardware to conduct quite an impressive beat down of Iran... but Iran also has the ability to launch chemical weapons at Saudi via IRBMs...so if Saudi DOES decide to do it... there will have to be at least 2-3 US Ticondaroga class cruisers in the gulf to take down the Iranian missiles. In the end we need their oil.. as it's loss (even for 6 months) will result in a massive global depression.

Not if he has any brains.

America doesn't need a 3'rd war to speed up its bankruptcy.

Closing the street of Hormuz to oil traffic would be the final nail in the coffin for the world economy.

Let's hope there is no "Wag the Dog" distraction from domestic issues and bad poll numbers....

Besides, everybody knows Predator strikes and commando raids are more his style.

If he had to choose, who is the appropriate foreign boogeyman of the week? He needs a new binLaden, quick! (Ok, Jalaluddin Haqqani looks promising, but he's hardly a household name yet)

The street of Hormuz will be temporarily closed for repaving, but both sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian traffic.
