It depends what you mean by that Scarey. U.S. Tax Code does not currently prohibit preaching about politics, what it does prohibit and I agree with the prohibition is supporting a particular candidate or party.

Other that that I disagree with what you write above.

Probably a few billion dollars of revenue could be raised if only Schools, Colleges and Universities were taxed.

Is the same true for other non-profits... like the now defunct ACORN?

Hmm, seemingly Scarey would be delighted to tax every eleemosynary institution in the country into bankruptcy, but I rather suspect that political action groups are excluded from that.

most likely there wouldn't be much tax income from churches. they would just close. and re-open under a different name...like social club. as far as i have heard, the individual churches are not making a killing. some barely stay afloat. could be wrong tho.

The vast majority of congregations in Canada and the U.S. manage to meet their budgets including public outreach to the disadvantaged without much room to spare.

I will tell you this, politics do not belong on the Alter.

The only message I want to here is the WORD OF GOD, not the opinion of man.

Always said keep church and state separate.
If churches want to dabble and play in influencing politics, TAX 'em!...;)

You want to hear *(not here) words written by men about an imaginary being that lives in the sky?

That explains a lot about your completely and utterly delusional life.

should church officials, rabbis, imams have less freedom of expression than other citizens?

No but hopefully they have enough brains not to further alienate parts of their already severely diminished congregations. I stopped having anything to do with the United Church when they started getting politically active beyond what I thought was their purpose.

thats a fair way to deal with it. I find the united church an odd duck at times. I read an article once about a United Church minister saying that jesus was just a fable. It made me wonder what they believe.

I believe Churches are businesses and should be tax accordingly. Just like other not for profit enterprises. Church has always been political both past and present. Read the bible... God did say give(TAX) and you shall receive(DONATIONS/TAX BREAKS)...
