i recently told someone they looked like a walrus with throat cancer.

how offensive is that and if it was something posted here would it have gotten deleted?

their reaction was to throw a drink at me and tell me i am an asshole with no soul.

You really shouldn't talk to your mom like that.

A friend of mine, hasnt talked to his sister in over 7 years, they had a big fight. And hes never seen his sisters 2 kids. One of them was in the hospital with respiratory problems and only had days to live. My friends mom took it upon herself to invite my friend to the hospital to say his last goodbyes. When his sister heard this she emailed him and told him not to come, and said a couple of other choice words.

My friends response to his sister was..

"dont worry if i wanted to see a vegetable i would go to A & P"

At first im like LOL, then im like that was a low blow.

to this day they still havent talked to each other.

If you do not find your comment offensive, it's beyond words anybody could say to show you HOW. Maybe you found a walrus (with whatever) is Ok, attractive...then the conclusion is you are pretty close to being one yourself. Don't worry about the thread being deleted, it SHOULD be kept to the top page to show how insensitive one can be. Of course it is a waste to throw a drink at anytime.

about an hour ago in the truck stop here heard a bunch of guys all hitting on this one truck driver woman. she just kept saying "you can't afford me" or other such bullshit like that. my truck happened to be facing hers and i saw what she looked like. some guy asked her how much again and she said "you can't afford me" in an annoying high pitched deep south accent, i could just see her fat rounded teeth clicking together while she was cackling. so i grabbed my mic real quick and said "ya cuz you charge by the pound, you tubby bitch" she looked right at me while i was laughing, then the rest of the guys got in on it. she turned her radio off real quick.

As with most things in life, "it depends". It depends on who it was and how you said it, what was said before.

If this was your friend from childhood and you bust on each other all the time, then maybe your joke is appropriate. If this is someone from work who you met a week ago, not so much.

Social calibration is something you should have learned from your first day of kindergarten. It's inherently human. No one can really teach it to you. If you find yourself constantly offending people and having no idea why, you may be autistic.
