Ha ha ha because I'm nursing a quarter tankful in my ride so as I can save a couple of bucks on my next fill. If there is no action on the price by tomorrow then I'm going to complain to someone.

I filled up just now for 119.9 at Loblaws which is a lot lower than last week. Funny how it seems to be a cheap price when we cried about it going over a dollar a short time ago.

It will never go down even though the oil prices reflect lower rates than when we were paying 30% less a year ago. Why ? Because the liberals (ONT), conservatives (FED) and the oil companies have nice monopolistic deal that generates money for everybody at the expense of the average Joe.

They are all bandits so don't think any election now or in the future will ever make a difference.

Gas prices in Canada are very close to the average price of gas around the world.

If anything, prices may go up if what I'm hearing about the "longer than usual maintenance outage @ the ESSO refinery" is correct. Your choice, fill-up as needed.

Don't hold your breath with the way OIL Robber Barron's manipulate prices. When something happens in their favor, prices shoot up FAST and FASTER! When it's time for prices to drop, it takes forever.

It's all part of the 'joys of deregulation' they claim saves us money!....

gas prices are a classic example of a non-issue
you can do fuck all to influence it, and besides, the difference between high prices and low prices for an average driver would maybe amount to an extra $50/month if that, so whoever is worried about the gas prices just needs to get a better job and stop sweating small stuff

it will never go under 1$ a liter again. ever.
I Disagree!

Canada and the USA have MORE Natural Gas than Saudi Arabia has oil. There is enough NG in North America to fuel all our vehicles for over 100 years! Vehicles can easily run on CNG. Detroit and US/Canadian Automakers could easily crank up production of CNG vehicles within 1 year. All that would be needed is to build CNG filling stations. Or you could put CNG compressors in your garage, so you can fill your vehicle at home using your existing NG lines.

If this were done the price of dirty gasoline would drop like a rock!...:eyebrows:

yeah that is all fine and dandy and also not gonna happen for a long time. oil companies are into making record profits every quarter and to do that the price needs to kep going up while the cost of refining goes down. oil was at 104$ a barrel and gas was at 1.30$ and they were making record profits. now oil is at 80$ a barrel and gas stayed the same.

there is nothing that is gonna happen that will make oil go under 1$ even with electric and NG coming cuz the oil companies own the gov't and they will make sure it is so fucking hard to make that happen that those alternate sources never actually happen. look at the propane car, didn't hurt the gas industry and they are all but forgotten.

It's not complicated.

We bought just as much gas when it was $1.35 a litre as when it was .90 per litre.

Therefore, why the fuck would you reduce it in price? If the sheep are willing to be sheered, then sheer away.

Personally, I think the oil companies have found their sweet spot at $1.30 ish per litre. If it were $1.60, people WOULD drive less, or truly switch to more fuel efficient cars. But at $1.30, meh, you feel it when you fill up, but you don't feel it enough to do something about it (other than bitch.)

Rewind a couple years. Crude hit $146/barrel in mid 2008 and the highest I saw gas was $1.38/litre. I imagine it was slightly higher in TO. Now present day: just filled up for $1.28/litre ($1.19 if you take out the HST hike), with crude sitting at $80/barrel. So crude is at 55% of 2008 top, and gas is at 86% of 2008 top. A 31% disparity! Hell, just back up a couple weeks when crude was at $92/barrel and gas was at $1.32/litre ($1.22 taking out the HST), still a 25% disparity.

To be honest, I don't understand how the whole system works, so can't really comment on whether or not this disparity has a reasonable explanation. But it's hard to understand we aren't getting gouged when gas prices going up equates to incredibly large profits for energy companies.
