Am I correct to say that Jose Bautista is the only Jay over 30 in to-night's lineup. I think Aaron Hill is still under 30.

First game, 2 hits, an RBI lets hope the lack of defense was nerves.
I'd give him a pass for now, those certainly looked like a case of the nerves to me , he's a hyped prospect, playing in his first major league game, and a Canadian playing for a Canadian team no less , they sent down a friend of his (snider) to bring him up, and just to make things more comfortable the Jays moved their best player from third so he could play that position.
So I can understand him being a little bit nervous.
Agree. Did you see how high the infield grass is in Baltimore? (It is higher than the pubic hair on some of the ladies I've seen. Hee, hee, hee.)
Let's save any judgments until he has played at least 25 - 30 major league games.
For a 21 year old rookie appearing in his first ever big league game he did very well last night! He was even batting 1.000 for a while!

I wish he was a second baseman. Jays seem to have nothing interesting at second in their entire minor league system.

Look at it this way...
As we know, baseball is a game of statistics.
The BJ’s this year have been a typical .500 club… never more than 3 games over .500 and only 3 times as low as 5 under.
Yet, since their last low [-5] on July 7, they have gone 15 and 8… even taking into account a rash of blown saves lately.
That is .652 ball, and that is very good ball! Any team that can play .652 ball for a full season will win 105 or 106 games.
Had the BJ’s had only mediocre success in closing this season instead of 19 blown saves, they could well have been 67-45 instead of 57-55 today.
And here is an interesting point: if the BJ’s can play .652 ball for the balance of the season -- the 50 games remaining -- they will have 90 victories. Many of those victories will have to come against the Rays, the Sox and the Yanks whom they play all of September… and if they do that, they will each have fewer victories. So 90 victories just might make a wild card! :eyebrows:
But the point is this: this is a much better club than it seems on the surface. AA has done a very good job and it is clearly showing.
If Lawrie plays as projected, it may be that the BJ’s are just a closer away from competing... and a productive 2nd baseman and DH from leading.

National Post says Henderson Alvarez is being called up this week to start against California Angels on either Friday or Saturday. Fill in for the departed Villanueva.
Might just be here for one start. Keith Law says Alvarez still gives up too many hits per 9 innings and should not be called up. His stats are better than what Drabek did last year in New Hampshire though and he can hit over 100mph on the radar gun.

According to the link you supplied, he's also got a .286 ERA after jumping to AA from A+. Sounds promising.
Are you suggesting his stuff is too straight, or doesn't move enough? Would explain the high hit rate to a degree.

I don't know anything other than the numbers, and even then I screwed up I did not post his stats accurately, it's 1.7 walks per 9 innings, I completely misread that.
What I would love to know now is is he giving up those hits and walks in the second go around in the lineup, if so, maybe he should be in the pen
