I still don't understand what you're asking.. But I like your single and double word responses.. It's like talking to my mother in law.

Are you asking what aspects of their own cultures the United States "melting pot" would require them to drop? I would imagine it would be whichever aspect offends the majority of the other cultures.. I don't believe that it's a set of rules that they follow, so much as a general idea that they have to accept when agreeing to immigrate into that country.

Does that answer your question?

To tell you the truth, I don't know which aspects they might drop. I can tell you a Muslim man from the Middle East would only begin to be thought of as American when he began to adopt "American" values and stopped acting so Muslim..

In Canada you're thought of (or are supposed to be) as Canadian pretty much the minute you get off the boat.

Not quite true, as Canadian, regardless of their culture, they like every other Canadian are expected to be tolerant of others, and to follow the law.

There is no law against taking photo's in a public place.
And assault is illegal in this country.

They were not being Canadian.

The fact that they broke the law doesn't make them un-Canadian. Heck if that were all that was necessary to be consider un-Canadian then everybody here wouldn't be able to consider themselves Canadian (those hotel rooms we visit with SPs are bawdy houses which are illegal to visit).

I'm not defending the woman. She sounds nuts. I'm just saying that there shouldn't be a knee jerk "us against them" attitude towards muslims.

There was nothing wrong with her wanting to exercise her religious rights, but there was something wrong with breaking the law in doing so. Either way, she's still as Canadian as she was the day before.

Point well taken.. However, The original point made by Bishop is that you can't "deal with these people like ordinary Canadians". So with that in mind, I maintain that simply because somebody is actively (even militantly) Muslim, does not mean they disqualify for being considered "Canadian".

I'm not saying they are not Canadian for the way they acted, but that they were not acting Canadian, and that Multiculturalism has always taught tolerance , and has never sent the message that breaking the law is acceptable simply because of one's culture.

If there is any truth to this story I really hope charges are pressed , so we can find out all these details once and for all.

I am not Muslim but had I won the lottery I would not mind at all to have 4 young good-looking wives wearing burkas or whatever it's called and kicking ass of whoever is trying to photograph them. In fact that is my plan if i ever win.

You can like Muslims or not but certainly this religion can offer to men with money quite a bit more than any other religion on Earth or atheism for this matter.

It does make you wonder sometimes. A 22 year old woman was beaten, kidnapped and sexually assaulted by David Wesley Bobbitt. Her family's appeal to the police basically went unheeded. Finally, her male relatives broke down the door and rescued her. Last I heard, the police were considering filing charges against the male relatives. (Of course, we also remember the shopkeeper arrested for apprehending a shoplifter.)

Even if you are in a public place, try to avoid taking pics of children. When Julian Fantino was the police chief he once tackled and arrested a man for taking pics of kids in a theme park. Query: Is a theme park considered a public place?

Canada is only a Mosaic because ONE MAN made it government policy, Pierre Trudeau. It was not something that came from the people, it was something imposed on them as part of his internationalist ideology. Trudeau did not believe in nationalism of any kind, especially Quebec nationalism and used the "mosaic" and multiculturalism" as a means of stating to the Quebecois that they weren't special, just one of the many groups that populate Canada. It was the beginning of the end of any hope for Canada to develop a truly "Canadian" culture, like similar countries Australia or New Zealand. Now with free trade and the internationalizing of culture through media and the internet, Trudeaus's dream has come true and we are just a land mass, ruled by pathetic apologists, reflecting the cultures of over 200 OTHER countries, but no longer allowed to develop anything of our own lest it offend one of the myriad groups in the current mosaic.

Let's see how this shakes out, but I don't believe the story happened as reported. The Sun could use its influence (read: Ford / Conservatives) to 'force' TPS to provide the video footage.
