Please stay away from errors that result merely from english being a person's second language; those are fair, until I learn Spanish, Punjabi or Vietnamese...

But, in no particular order:

It's WARY, not WEARY (unless you mean tired)

It's FLOUT the law, not FLAUNT the law (unless you're showing off how great our laws are)

Mischievous does NOT rhyme with "Miss Cheesie Bus" (i.e. it's not Mischiev-I-ous)

OMFG there are so many more but I got other Cranky Dude shuff to do. Take it from here, Professor Pervy...

In a very dark place
One of our ( meaning English ) costliest 'errors' in Canada was leaving survivors after the Plains of Abraham.

Spelling errors that drive me crazy are wrong use of:

their, they're, there
your, you're
too, to, two
I agree and will add.

It is regardless not irregardless. Irregardless is not a word.

Punctuation is my peeve

- run on sentences
- paragraphs that never end
- and most of all spaces in between the word and the exclamation point, question mark, etc! There is no farkin' space!

Should of instead of Should've It's a contraction of Should have.

Try and get instead of Try to get The second verb should be in the infinitive, the same as in French.

Amount of people instead of Number of People It the group can be counted, always use Number. If it's a quantity, (water, grain, land, etc.), use Amount.

Sentences that begin with Hopefully or However. Replace Hopefully with I hope or I am hopeful that. One might say I wish I had a million dollars, but no one would say Wishfully I had a million dollars. When However is used, it should always be in the middle of a sentence, with commas preceding and following.

Attaching Gate to a word when referring to some sort of scandal. It relates, of course, to the Watergate scandal from Richard Nixon's second term as US President. That was news in 1973, and irrelevant now.

I see many more people using the word worst where worse should be used. Very annoying. It gets worse every day. (correct use).

Every day vs. everyday is another one, but it's not the worst error people make.

:D

"I could care less". What one usually means to say "I couldn't care less".

And just to bend the thread a bit, a huge peeve of mine is one some boards (not this one) members jump all over those with limited english skills. Often remarking "English please!"

That really bugs me as it's not easy to come from another country and become proficient at a new language. I have nothing but respect for those people. redflagdeals.com is notorious for that.

B

burt-oh-my!

I have a different kind of beef - I learned to use orientate as opposed to orient and some wise guys seem to think it is wrong. It isn't, orientate is just fine, its a bit mroe common in Britain that's all.
