Only strip club in Fredericton to close after city buys it: manager - Winnipeg Free Press
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/canada/breakingnews/125416043.html

"FREDERICTON - The manager of Fredericton's sole strip club says staff at the bar will soon be unemployed after the city approved buying the property for $500,000.

Holly Ramsay of the North Star Sports Bar Pub says she's been told the city will close the bar and put about 10 exotic dancers and other staff out of work.

Ramsay is questioning why tax dollars are being used to kill their jobs.

City council passed a resolution Monday night approving the purchase of the property at 100 Clark St.

Ramsay says she'd heard rumours of the city's interest, but she never imagined councillors would commit public funds to close the bar down."

From the local newspaper The Daily Gleaner some points missing from the above:

The City of Fredericton was approached by the owner's estate about buying the property

it is a non-conforming property

It on the "wrong" side of the river.

The city has plans for redevelopment (although quite what they can do with the property is a good question).

I have never been into this club, but "up scale" isn't the term I'd use (take a look on "street view" it is the one story building behind the Ultramar).

Looks like a typical small-town stripclub that you'd see anywhere in Ontario or Quebec.

With a significant University population one would think that Fredericton would have more of a strip club - SP presence but that isn't the case.

Still as small cities go it is a nice one.

Well, buying it out is nicer than revoking its business license with trumped up bylaw infractions or LE busts ... ahem York Region.

Yes, definitely nicer for the owner of the place. Not so great for the taxpayers of Fredericton and how their tax dollars are used (to enforce morality). And it just makes the place even more dull for the locals.
