.......Kitchener and surrounding areas?Just bought a canoe and have no idea where to go.Needs to be a good place to fish(Pickerel,Bass,Trout,Pike) and canoe(possibly camp).I'm at a loss, need a guide.I know you can canoe the Nith and Grand river but I want more of a lake atmosphere leading into a tributary.I checked out the Lake in Woodstock but there were no boat launch areas accept where you go to get a day pass.My pet peeve is having to pay anyone to go canoeing on a lake that is everyones to use!I HATE THAT!Soooooooo, share your knowledge with the KissyKiss?!Please?

If you are in Kitchener then you should try the Grand River. It has launching points that are too numerous to mention and all free. The fishing is world class as well along many of the stretches. Also, many of the conservation areas have public access points. Camping for free could be a problem simply because anywhere south of Barrie is so heavily populated but there are many opportunities on Crown Land. PM me know if you need some more specific info.

Thanks Boss Nass! That was exactly what I was looking for.Looks like I can take the 401 go in to townline 1,then follow Consession rd and find many lakes, starting at Puslinch and on.Looks like if I stay on Consession and onto Leslie Rd,I'll hit Mountsberg Lake and eventually with a few hooks and turns Kelso Lake(not to mention all the small rivers, streams and reservoirs on route.Excellent!Again Thank you:)

Wow Boss Nass! Thanks for the atlas link, this is awesome. I never knew that existed, just happened to be lucky enough to stumble onto crown land from time to time and have made note of where it was.

kissykisskiss, I have fished the areas just south of the dams in Cambridge (lots of bass and grass pike), south of the dam in Caledonia (lots of pickerel) and the fly fishing only section just east of Fergus (browns all morning long). The section between Cambridge and Brantford is fantastic for canoe trips as long as you don't mind the occasional portage (nothing to serious). The Grand River Conservation Authority can help you out with maps of launching points and trails.

try Belwood lake, It's not too far from you (just outside of Fergus) has a conservation area for easy access to the lake. Good pike and bass action, no great size, but fun with a canoe.

Anywhere within 300 km. of a big city, the lakes and rivers are all fished out. You might try an outfitter.
These are commercially operated places that rent cabin, boats with fishing rights to their stocked lakes.
There are some that provide package deals that include cabin, boat, and 3 meals a day.

this is not true at all my feline friend. The scenery is great the further north or east you go but for strictly fishing, there are some great locations at your door step if you do your homework.

try Conestogo dam, you can camp there as well.. probably the same rates as Bellwood since they are under the same Grand River Conservation Authority.. good luck, let us know how you fare

Canoe fishing Rubby. You like to twist words to make yourself right. So maybe you should help the guy out and tell him a good canoe fishing place. I know that if you do not know the waters you will not catch fish, you also need to know the type of bait or fly and the method to catch the fish. Outfitters have stocked lakes, lakes on crown land are also stock, if they were not they would be fished out quickly near large populations. You like to stand on the side and criticize, but you can not come up with a good place to fish. You just get off hijacking threads and get a hard on when one of your cronies chimes in and does your dirty work for you. You must be a very unhappy person.

Yes, this area is good as well, again not much size but fun pike, bass, and the occasional walleye. The Elora gorge area is also nice, scenic canoeing but some rapids to navigate. Some resident brown trout populations in this area as well. And still close to home for the OP.

Rubby,

I suggested going to an outfitter. for one price you can have fishing by the day and boat and motor rental if you like. They also provide a overnight stay in cabin and meals if you do not like to cook. I have been to a few places like this in Ontario and Quebec. They want you to have a good time so that you will be a frequent visitor. They tell you the best methods for their lakes, and the type of bait to use. If you arrive without the proper fishing lures or baits, they can provide them to you. These lakes are well stocked.

A little secret is that if you are a frequent visitor to these outfitter fish camps, they will give you special deals on their slow days, I knew a outfitter in Quebec that use to give me a cabin for overnight with boat and electric motor for $80 per person. ( the new owner is not as generous ) I got my limit of 1/2 lb specled trout almost every time. ( and a few 3/4 to 1 lb. speckies )

Naming waters does not get you good fishing, saying that there is good fish in lake Ontario is like saying you can get an SP in Toronto. All the places you mentioned may have fish in it, where is the best spot? You can go to every one and not have as much sucess as my suggestion at an outfitter. Again you are playing your game of I am right and you are wrong, my words are more important that your words.

Rubby, did you notice my new anti hijack sign?
