I bike more than most. I may go for a 25 mile ride or bike 2 miles to the store for something. I just bought a helmet but can't bring myself to put it on. It looks like most. I just can't wear one of those ridiculous looking helmets! I saw 2 HOT chicks today. One I knew and the other I didn't. Would not have wanted to pull up to either with my ridiculous looking helmet on. I may use it if I go for a 25 mile ride and I know that I won't be meeting anyone. And you?

I've noticed the tide seems to be turning this year. Not many adults are wearing them. Five years and under only.

Or that you will be riding on the short bus or having some pretty nurse cutting your steak and wiping your drool after a brain injury from not wearing a helmet?
And there we have it folks.

A helmet may be looked at as a little geeky, or a bit uncomfortable.

A wheelchair is regarded as a whole lot geekier, and more uncomfortable.

When I was just 15 years old we could legally ride moped with NO helmets. Helmets were not required since they could not go over 25 mph--later raised to 30 mph but then kids had to wear them. Did I ever crash, sure, ever got seriously injure, heck no.

I don't ride my bike faster than 25 mph, no way I'm wearing some helmets unless i can legally put an engine on my bike, ha ha.

People buy/ride too big of a bike and or have the seat set too high. Even my bike shop was saying my seat is too low, that I could bike quicker sitting down with the seat up higher, maybe so but i kicked myself up lots of times and haven't crashed my bike yet. That is the trick, with your seat too high up you can not kick the bike back up cause you feet won't reach the ground until the bike is too far down to kick back up.

If your going to wear a helmet why not a neck brace also. Your neck can break easier wearing a helmet cause it makes your head a little bit heavier. But who wears a neck brace, like nobody.

Christopher Reeve was wearing a helmet but no neck brace, he felled off his horse and was instantly paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe. Prompt medical attention saved his life and delicate surgery stabilized the shattered C1-C2 vertebrae and literally reattached Reeve's head to his spine.

So yeah wear a helmet, that way if you F up, you can quickly die and save us all your medical bills

S.C. Joe, there is lots and lots of data to support that there are fewer cycling fatalities when wearing a helmet. Sure, you could break your neck, but your are MUCH MORE likely to suffer a crushing blow to the skull.

I always wear mine.

It doesn't take a very hard knock to the head to end up with a serious concussion; I've been there.

A helmet is a pretty easy way to get some protection.

I was riding the first ride of the year on my Trek the last Saturday in April. I was riding too fast and had a wipeout. There were serious pavement burns and a some bleeding on my leg, forearm and my shoulder; I still have noticeable scars. It wasn't until after I got back home that I realized that the lining of my bike helmet was cracked. I didn't even realize that I'd whacked my head. Having suffered a debilitating concussion years ago, I was happy for the helmet. So yes, I'd say that a helmet is definately a necessity. For years I rode without a helmet, but never again.

I should have been more specific, but my poll was for wearing a helmet on a bicycle and not a motorcycle. Generally speaking, I won't even get on a motorcycle let alone not wear a helmet! I had the use of a motorcycle when I was in my 20's. It was alright, but didn't care much for it. It was just cheap transportation to me.

People who don't wear a helmet have nothing worth protecting.

Many years ago a friend of mine wiped out going down a hill, and he wasn't wearing a helmet. I'd let you talk to him about this issue, but he's six feet under as a result of the cranial trauma.

'Nuff said.

A man riding his bicycle on a sidewalk and wearing a helmet is a wuss and a disgrace.

In Amsterdam it would certainly be so. In north America - not so much.
