it was non violent and she had the courage of her convictions. on the other hand "stop harper" is not much of a slogan and he did just win the election.

We voted Harper in with a Majority - so let him get on with the job at hand !
As for Bridgette DePape - she is obviously very immature and her "little protest" proves it !

On the one hand, I admire her passion and her ability to articulate her opposition to policies of the Harper government that she is opposed to. On the other hand, she was hired as a Senate page, with specific responsibilities to carry out duties in a dignified manner, and her conduct is unprofessional and ultimately pointless.

Watch the video, I say well done Ms De Pape. She is kinda cute too. She makes some good points and I do admire her willingness to stand up for her beliefs. Sure it was inappropriate, but successful protest is almost ALWAYS inappropriate.

What good points? Saying Harper should be stopped is hardly a point.

A University Graduate who dispite that fact, seemingly is totally unable to grasp that there is a time and a place for everything; and everything in its time and place.

As a Senate Page she was a minor official of the Upper House; you don't interrupt the Speech from the Throne for political grandstanding particularly so in the immediate wake of a decisive election. She has brought discredit on the Senate and disgrace on herself.

I trust she enjoyed her 15 seconds and a horrific job refernce - then again perhaps her dream job has always been in the "counterculture."

i hate harper and i think she's an idiot.
Gotta hope she's a rich idiot. If she needed that job to pay for school, she's fucked now.

It's a hell of an honour getting picked to work in the house of commons. They need to hire people who have more respect for the institution (i know, the same thing applies to the MPs and PM). I wonder if she had to go through a metal detector, or if she could have brought in a gun, instead....

Oh, shit. It was just the senate. I'm surprised anyone even noticed. As long as Mike Duffy (C, BCE/CTV) is still fouling the upper chamber with fag jokes and stale beer farts, it can't be taken seriously.

Watch the video.. she has a point that our pathetic electoral system puts dictators like Harpo in absolute power with only 40% of the vote.

As much as I understand and respect tradition she obviously chose her time well, knowing almost everyone will be watching. She fully understood she was going to be employed in the Senate come Monday, but apparently she has job offers already, so onwards with her life.

harper does not represent my vision of canada and i support this girl and her courage.........hope we see plenty of this peaceful civil disobedience in the next 4 years. Harpo may be our dictator for the next few years, but we ( the 60 % who voted against him) need to let him know that we don't agree with him .

What sort of "job offers?: community organizer for friends of the clubed seals?; or Assistant Public Relations Officer for Kingston General Hospital?
No details at this point, but at least she'll get a pay check. I 'd be interested what she'd be earning as a Senate page.

Just checked. A first year page gets ~$12,000/yr + $1,200 bonus. The Chief page gets ~$20,000+. Not bad for a part-time job.

She makes some good points
She showed that she is clueless when she said that she wants a Canadian version of the "Arab Spring" and wants the people to rise up. She can't seem to grasp that many Canadians actually voted for the Conservative party.

uhhh... instead of protesting in Parliament, what she need to do is convince the people who voted for the CPOC to not do so in the future. All she did was piss off those voters.

But she's a winner anyway. She got her fame and will get offers to work for NOW Magazine or other left-wing outlets where she will be the flavour of the month. She's like our version of Joe the Plumber or the dude in US Congress who screamed "You lie!" at Obama and became a hero (to the right-wing in this case).

She is the darling of the left-wing right now and you can bet that NOW Magazine, The Star and other left-wing media would love to have her join their ranks.

39.62% of Canadians voted for Harper. 60.38% voted against him. This was her point. While Harper has the seats to do what he wants, he does not have the popular support. She is 100% correct that Canada is NOT a conservative country by nature. Our election system is IMHO not democratic as it does not deliver a government that is representative of the peoples wishes.

You sure do read a lot into a silent protest carrying a sign that said 'stop Harper'. I suspect that's you opinion or stance.
Her points in her subsequent interview has been get out and vote especially the younger people.

Her potest is a little more visceral that that as pointed out by an information sheet handed out by supporters ;

"This country needs a Canadian version of an Arab Spring, a flowering of popular movements that demonstrate that real power to change things lies not with Harper but in the hands of the people, when we act together in our streets, neighbourhoods and workplaces."

Her second term was going to come to an end in a couple of weeks when the Senate rise for the summer.
