Ohhhhh the good ole dandelion,,,I remember playing with them as a kid, sitting around making necklaces and crowns and getting that sticky milky crap all over my fingers.....sigh. I love the way a field of those golden flowers looks,,,,,till they are no longer blooming, then they look like shit. ;)

I agree, those that let their lawn go to weeds and allow it to go to seed, knowing it spreads, pisses me off too.
Do what I did...last year the house behind me, after he cut down a beautiful tree the year before, let the lawn go to hell, lookin through the fence, it was pure, 1-2ft weeds, then it started coming under the fence and spreading on my lawn, which I work hard to maintain, finally after a couple of polite comments about it I lost it...everytime I saw him in the yard I went out back and yelled at him, yelled about not caring about anyone else, that he was a slob...{we don't talk much now}
Must have worked because he has a crew back there as I type, they are stripping the yard to the dirt, wonder what he puts back??? grass or patio stones......

If it's as bad as you describe, you can call the city and maker a complaint. It's a fine line, but they can do something.

This is not necessarily an immigrant thing.

The latinos on one side of my house have a immaculate lawn, it's nicer than mine.

The middle aged white lady on the other side has a backyard filled with weeds and garbage, and a front yard that she never mows.

Fuck I am pissed at the non-Canadians who live in my Markham neighbourhood and dont maintain their lawns....overgrown now with dandelions....they let them go to seed. Do none of them know what a fucking lawn mower looks like?
Fuck they should all move to Queens Quay and live in concrete.
You're right. They don't. Lawnmowers allow people too poor to hire gardeners to pretend their tiny bit of greensward is the same as some English lord who not only had teams of gardeners to nmaintain it, but could pasture his sheep wherever they looked most picturesque in the distance.

People in other parts of Europe, Asia and America where this XVIIIth English fashion never caught on are used to even smaller properties surrounded by walls and fences and paved where they aren't used to grow beautiful things like flowers or useful things like kitchen greens.

Lawns are conspicuous consumption in the extreme: 'Look at me, rich enough to maintain a labour-intensive live carpet!' If you aren't rich enough to maintain it, give it over to native plants that do a better job of looking after themselves. Your kids will happily play on dandselions, plantain and such.

But if you want people to behave according to your personal preferences, I'd suggest going over with a couple of Cokes and offering to help with the mowing by lending your mower would be way more effective than whining on TERB. An annual whine will just make you feel worse.

You yanks (Canadians are just yanks with a queen) and your fucking lawns. I grow dandelions to piss you off. I kick the seed heads too, to spread them more.

Nice Dens
Cut dandelions and they just grow lower to the ground. Enjoy them. Make believe you planted them yourself.

A field left to grow with weeds and whatever looks better than any clipped lawn I have ever seen.

Ditto for a tree vs statues.

I have a little larger than average suburban lawn, well maintained, and no weeds. That's because I spot spray only as needed. I still have 1/2 a liter of killex left from before the ban. 1/2 liter will have lasted me about 4 years. Sure its poison, but don't drink it! It is species selective with a short effective life once used. If used properly and sparingly it should be no problem. Besides, if we're so concerned about sprays, why is round up still being sold, which by the way is not species selective?

You are aware of course that Dandelions are not native plants ?

Not as simple as that. It's an environmental contaminant.
yes, your right and I am over simplifying matters, but used sparingly, being species selective, and having a short active life when applied should make it less of a concern. The biggest problem is people don't apply it correctly and overuse it which is why everything gets banned or over regulated eventually. BTW, anybody ever been on a golf course early in the morning when the dew is still hanging on the grass. The chemical soup in the air is enough to choke me. One example of gross misuse of product and these are the people who needlessly contaminate but are exempt from the ban. Not to mention those lawn services who would spray shortly before a heavy downpour because they don't want to come back or have "X" number of homes per day to do rain or shine.....Ok, my rant is done

scotts has w weed killer with iron that kills only the dandilions and not the grass.I fucking hate the creeping charlie, nothing kills that shit but the old killex. Was gonna buy some killex in the states but its a huge fine if you get caught.Premier Daddy Dalton is fucking up all our lawns.Golf courses can still use the good stuff,or,if you know a farmer he can buy it from a seed store(you need a licience to buy it)

Roundup is a lot less toxic than Killex. You actually could drink Roundup...not that I am recommending that however. But not Killex. Having said all that I thinik the bans on it are not a good thing, especially when they start affecting agriculture. Cosmetic use of herbicides...perhaps that is a luxury we don't need, but in agriculture it is food production that will suffer if these bans extend out into ag.
