If it's an unknown number or 800#, I don't answer.

If it's someone of importance, they'll leave a message.
No message, probably not important.

All these techniques do nothing to stop them from calling again.

Use the magic words and in time, your number makes its way up the system of Do Not Call Lists and the (legit) telemarketers all stop calling.
I don't think you get on the Do Not Call List by asking a telemarketer to put you on it.

If its Bell or Rogers, calling they may have a deal for like free hdpvrs, cell phones,
upgrades.
Deep discounts, try to listen, I could be worth your wile. Then bragg to your friends and neighbors about a deal you got for being a loyal customer.

You are correct, you don't get on the Official Do Not Call List this way, however most firms have their own lists and if you tell them politely they may add you to their list and at least it will be one less telemarketer bothering you.

I usually ask for this and/or say "I never buy anything from someone contacting me over the phone so you may as well take my name off the list and save yourself the wasted call."

I have listened to Bell's spiel several times.... I have never been offered any great deals when they have called me. Usually they just want to sign me up for more crap that will raise my bill.

If you ask them to, they have to put your number on their own "do not call" list, not the list generated by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

To get rid of these clowns ask them what they are wearing? Do they have big tits or ass? Do they want to fuck? etc.
Maybe you will get lucky and find a pervert of the opposite gender and won't have to pay for SP anymore.
They can't complain about this as they are the ones who called you.

Actually they don't know where you live, a computer dials. If you want to do business with them you need to tell them your phone number as well for it is not easily available to them. DO NOT try this with door to door people, as that would be dangerous.

Went on the DNC list and Ioptout.
Went on the do not call list and the number of calls doubled (WTF), so now I'm as rude as shit. Not my problem that they work for a company that likes to break the rules and ignore the list. I figure that if they don't like it, they won't call. You call me at your own risk.
One time I answered a phone and instead of hello, I said "Someone better be dead!", scared the shit out of the caller.
