Looting would be extremely unlikely in Japan. That's because it is not a christian nation. The more christian a place is, the more that looting is probable after a natural disaster.
Issues, eh? I hope your ass has recovered from the pounding it must have taken when you were serving at the altar. Or is that what first turned you onto the sub lifestyle?

Sir, you forgot to add: "But not ALL Christians are looters and murderers."

Let's see which countries send more aid to Japan: Christian nations or non-Christian nations.

Of course Christian nations from Europe and North America. No "apparent" vested interest from the ME, mostly Islamic countries, even oil rich country like Canada if you want to believe in that.

Both continents are scared to death when the thought of Japan is so damaged that they need to redeem their investments in Billions of Euro and USD debts back home for reconstructions.

Should this "doomsday" scenario become a reality, the contagion will spread and the Chinese will start their turn to demand their money in Euro and USD back. Not going to be surprised Euro sovereign debt and the double-dip recessions would make a vengeance.

The Japanese have a concept called honor. If I have to explain it to you, well...explains a lot, no?
This might come as a shock to you but the Japanese are not the only people who know the concept of honour. There are a lot of good people on this Earth and not every one of them is Japanese.

Watching the David Suzuki (who is ethnic Japanese) movie on CBC. He is criticizing the Japanese for looting the oceans of all the fishes:(. In your lifetime, many fish species will be extinct.

Let's see whether Suzuki-san is going to bash people of the same heritage by doing Sharon Stone bad karma stunt.

Yeah, the documentry called "the cove" was a real eye opener. But they have been following the IWC regulations. And their own ecosystems are in pretty good shape.

Plenty of looting by the Japanese in Nanking in 1937/38 (among other things).

Still, yes, the point that Japanese will not loot their own country during a time of natural disaster is certainly, from my limited experience of the Japanese, very true. They believe in the good of the community and will sacrifice themselves individually for the community good.

New Orleans and Haiti are examples of the socially disadvantaged using a natural disaster as an excuse for opportunistic acts to avenge a sense of past wrongs, or just individuals taking advantage in the absence of law and order with no sense of 'the good of the community'.

In Florida, when hurricanes roar through, signs indicating "looters will be shot" are not uncommon sights in coastal communities.

Unfortunately, the bad people outweigh the good people.

There has been more organization by the U.S Government to assist the Japanese ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD in the last 48 hours then there was in the first 96 hours in New Orleans.

If I had been in New Orleans black or white I would thought my own government didn't give two shits about me.

There have been many reports of valuable belongings being left out in extremely visible areas around Japan for 24 hours or longer and people returning to find it untouched. So I doubt any Japanese person would loot. Unfortunately there are illegals from Nigeria, China and other places who would happily take advantage of the situation.

Im sorry but when groups of people react drastically different given a tragic event and total breakdown of authority. The question to be asked is why?

Could such behavior be the reason Japan is wealthy and Haiti is dirt poor despite billions of aid?

Anyhow kudos to the Japanese. No gang rapes, no machete swinging, no anarchy.

I wonder if a Tusnami could develop in lake Ontario (..or any of the great lakes for that matter) if there was a major earthquake centered there. I live about a 10-15 min walk from the lake in downtown Toronto so if there was a Tsunami I think I would be toast if the earthquake didn't get me first. Anybody know if there is any history of this ever happening in the distant past in and around southern Ontario ?

I am sure if we were all in a desperate situation where we were hungry or thirsty we would go into a destroyed grocery store (..I would make a beeline to the Metro store close by) to look for water and food. If it was open and selling and I had money I would line-up to buy, thats just me, but likely the ATM's are not working and so I may not have any money so if my only option is to starve or grab some food from a destroyed store to survive, then I am grabbing and grabbing some to give to my family and elderly neighbour as well. I don't call that looting I call that survival.

Now grabbing a big screen TV or couch thats looting and only idiots do that, what the hell are you going to plug that TV into or watch and can you really eat that leather couch ?

So during Katrina we need to cut some slack to the people grabbing food and water they were only trying to survive and you all would do the same as well. For the other people during Katrina looting big screen TV's or stacks of basketball shoes, no slack for them they are just thieves.

I am sure if things get worst the Japanese in the next several days will be grabbing food and water as well to survive and I will cut them a lot of slack on that. I don't really see them enmass doing the looting thing.
