Update: The two pilots said they were ordered to bomb the demonstrators, so decided to defect instead.
I heard that one of the guys on a helicopter gunship refused to fire, he was arrested and sent to a labour camp. He then escaped, but was captured at the airport and is now going to be on a deadly game show where he has to try to escape from various killers using different weapons like goalie sticks, chainsaws, flamethrowers and electricity.
Fascinating story, I hope they make a movie out of it. I hear Arnold is thinking about going back into movies.

Looks like Gadaffy's son is the one who realizes that he has the most to lose. He reminds me of the murderous Hussein son.
He's been lucky for many years, but that may run out now with so many turning on him.
It's really unclear what will happen next. SOME of the army, and SOME of the diplomats and politicians have deserted him, while others appear to be standing by him, and some are obviously willing to commit harsh acts of violence against their own civilians.
Some have suggested that it's foreign mercenaries that are carrying out the attacks on civilians, but it's also possible he is using tribal divisions, having armed forces drawn from one tribe killing people belonging to another.
If he can maintain some semblance of an army he can turn Libya into a brutal police state where opposition to the government is met by genocide. I wouldn't think that's beneath him, so it really depends what happen next. If he survives, it will be by turning his own country into a bloodbath. That would really be too bad. I hope somebody does assassinate him! It would save a lot of Libyan lives.
If the Arab League actually had their shit together they should put together a security force and intervene. Given Arab attitudes towards the West, it's really only Arab countries that could mount such a force and be received positively by the local population. However, since the whole Arab League is riddled with corruption and dictatorships and facing revolutions of their own this really isn't going to happen.

There are several videos which supposedly show dead/captured mercenaries from Chad. He has his own forces firing on Libyans, however the mercenaries are there for the dirty work too.
Wonder if Gadaffy had any blackwater(XE) contracts? They use South American mercenaries sometimes.
I googled. There are no pictures of Cheney with Gadaffi. But lots with Brown, Zarkozy and many more.
