that was crazy.. I actually know the guy who was in front of the cam car.. His car ended up rolling and is a write off. He managed to escape without serious injury though. I have been considering for a while to get a cam in my car as well. I was looking at getting the GoPro cam which they sell at Best Buy I believe.

I tried this unit, and it sucks. WIRELESS POLICE DASH CAM+LCD DVR CAMCORDER 1280X960 AVI http://cgi.ebay.com/WIRELESS-POLICE...588?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35af6296ac
Multiple ebay listings from various sellers - this one is from Ragecams. Average price about 80 bucks.
Light weight, fragile, very cheaply made, the suction cup mount ultimately failed, and once it fell off the windshield, it never worked again. But it was always problematic, requiring constant tweaking to get it to work, resetting, tapping the screen to get an image back, fiddly menu in nearly incomprehensible Chinglish... a total pain.
I have a Gopro, but I personally wouldn't use it as a dashcam. For one thing, it is too easily identifiable as a camera, and once some kid sees it, and recognizes it, he'll want it for his very own. Also, the menu is fiddlesome, and it would be a trial to constantly keep deleting old files.
I'm still looking for an ideal substitute now.
Considering the Drift Cam. In non HD - only about 150

Just like any security camera footage, I'm sure LE would be happy to get their hands on a video of a road rage incident or accident.

Which hwy the 401, east of Toronto?
West of Toronto, the Milton area.

Funny, I've been up and down that section four times in the last three days and haven't seen any evidence of this. They must have fixed it up quick.

It's common in this part of the world to have a camera on the dash for "insurance purposes?" Never seen it before... I don't think it's common. Maybe on a police car...

Actually not a bad idea. You don't need it until you need it.

I was with someone who hit someone going through a red light. The other driver said their light was green. It wasn't but it was their word against *ours*. Two beats one so it worked out. But what if we were lying? (We weren't) or what if my friend was alone?

The cost of insurance premiums is really affected by at fault claims. Any evidence can help if you need it.

For $100 it seems like a good idea.
and if you ever get into accident that is your fault just hide the camera LOL.
