A man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday following an altercation at a downtown night club, and police are hunting for the driver.

Vincent Dang, 20, of Concord, had been at the Rockwood Club in the city’s entertainment district and was walking with friends when he was hit, said a statement Saturday from the Toronto Police Services homicide squad.

Dang was hit at around 2:30 a.m. on Wellington St. east of Blue Jays Way, and taken to St. Michael’s Hospital, but later pronounced dead.

Police are searching for the driver of the SUV that fled the scene and looking for witnesses who may have information.

“The suspect left the club in a vehicle described as a dark-grey, full size SUV similar to a Suburban or Denali,” the statement said.

It said the vehicle, with three to five people inside at the time, drove eastbound on Wellington, before making a U-turn and driving directly at the victim, who was with friends on the north sidewalk.

After striking Dang, it continued southbound on Blue Jays Way.

The driver is described as brown, between the ages of 19 and 25, with a thin build, moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black jacket with stripes on the collar and sleeve.

Police say they SUV would have significant damage to its front end and right side.

Traffic Services reconstruction experts closed Wellington St. W. from Blue Jays Way to Simcoe St., for seven hours. They also examined video surveillance from businesses in the surrounding area.

Police are appealing to any witnesses and the driver to come forward.

There was a similar incident in Hamilton about 6 weeks ago. Where a young man drove his SUV into several people waiting in line at the London Tap House. Main & John. He did this because he was thrown out of the club.

Your freaking crazy--the windshield would get you if you were able to leap high enough--being an SUV I doubt it, U have to time the jump just right.

That is why U should not be in a street for any longer than U need to be.

Most people are smart enough not to hang out in the street. I bet the guy hit was drinking also.

As for bring on the guns since people can kill with anything, ah, this dude is still alive, right--who gets shot in the head and lives? Why do we need more weapons than what we have now. More weapons aren't the answer--just look at the USA or Mexico

The drinking part may have played a part in the altercation, but what does that have to do with anything if he is walking on the sidewalk and the SUV mounts the pavement to run him down?

No because after you jump and your on the hood, you start rolling right off. But even if you roll on the windshield your not gonna die. And no I don't play too much games, am serious this is a good way to avoid death. But regarding the drunk issue, i guess this situation might have been another story and the guy was too drunk to react.

OH---well those sidewalks are wide enough for an SUV---I hope they get the driver, that is cold blood. He belongs in prison with the other assholes. As for those other people in the SUV--hmm, they were not driving but might had cheered him on--not sure what should be done to them.

The drinking part might had screwed the victim up enough that he could not react quick enough--like get by a street pole-something to protect him.

U can go on the 401 tomomrow try your jump on the hood trick and see what happens. Once anything is going fast enough you are done for...sounds like the guy in the SUV had his foot on the gas going as fast as he could--maybe not 401 speeds but close enough

Oh and the victim did die--very sad--wasn't his fault at all--this is 1st degree murder--I'm not sure what he could had did--the street was empty at 2:30am, he was a sitting duck if no street lamp pole was around.

Man those are very large SUV's--you be lucky to time your jump if you could even jump high enough. Walk around one someday--those are all over the place here in the states. I know I could not jump high enough, not for those SUV's

And if U jump too soon or too late U be even lower towards to ground.
