Flubby's heroes at Hezbollah have been busy carrying out assassinations, meanwhile his pals over at the UN have been covering for them.
What a clown show.
A United Nations inquiry has sat for years on damning cell phone records linking Hezbollah assassins to the most notorious murder in modern Mideast history, a CBC investigation has revealed.
The evidence, published Sunday night in a trove of classified UN documents obtained by the CBC, is expected to ratchet already high tensions in volatile Lebanon, where the murky 2005 slaying of former prime minister Rafik Hariri looms ominously to this day.
The CBC disclosures come amid a flurry of indications the militant political faction is steeling itself for a violent response in the event of any UN indictments. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Thursday warned that any hand that seeks to arrest Hezbollah members “will be cut off.” Another senior Hezbollah source said that any UN indictments would be met within two hours with the group’s militant wing fanning out to impose a “military grip on large areas of Lebanon.”
The CBC disclosures are also expected to rattle the UN itself, which is accused of “timidity, bureaucratic inertia and incompetence bordering on gross negligence” in a 4,000-word account of the multi-month CBC News investigation led by Washington correspondent Neil Macdonald. Despite an attempt by UN lawyers to assert ownership of the documents, CBC News published them online Sunday and plans to further detail their contents in a documentary airing Monday night.
