I signed up for the free trial. Free is a great price. $8/month is pretty good too.

Quality of the player is pretty good. I have it hooked up through a PC, and thinking about buying a PS2 just to be a netflix + blueray player. Prefer PC games so the PS2 would probably just be for that. I'd prefer to buy an XBox but its netflix support isn't available yet and it doesn't come with the built in bluray player so likely PS2 it is. Not interested in a Wii for whatever reason--I think because I'm not a girl.

Selection of movies is good, but limited. I find if you go looking for a movie they most likely do not have it, but if you browse around what they do have you can probably find something you want to watch.

Hopefully they expand their selection of movies. I heard someone say the reason the selection is so limited is that they are still negotiating license agreements with content owners and that it's an ongoing effort--in that case hopefully the selection will improve as they license more and more content.

I am cancelling my Rogers cable tv sevice down to a minimum number of channels as I think netflix offers a better selection of movies, and for a tiny fraction of the price.

Still, if I want to watch major feature films looks like I still have to go to the video store and rent them. I checked previous year's academy award winners and in a typical year out of 10 films that won an award netflix will appear to have only 1 or 2 of them, which is a LOT of missing content.

This just about sums up my feeling of Netflix Canada, till there is more selection I wont bother renewing and paying for it after the first free month. Yes I know its not Netflix's fault and its got to do with Canadian distrubution and all, but still the US has got it up on us.

I dunno what they charge in the States, but you can't forget that they have 10 times the population. Besides, what do you want for $7.99 a month?

Is there a decent option for saving to hard drive? I like to watch movies more than once and I don't want to pay the internet charges over again.

Did Rogers cap the excess usage charge? It is $2/G over but I think there is a cap on the extra charge ($10?)

they charge $8.99 a month in the US and its a whole wack of first run movies and the selection of tv shows is incredible, I get tired of this 10x population argument, the facts of the matter are that a combination of the CRTC and their buddies the television and cable companies keep Canadians chained in like citizens of the Soviet Union. They pay next to nothing to pick up American programming, make a ton of advertising and subscription fees to provide this content. Then they wonder why the grey dish market is rampant.

Folks download Hotspot Shield and see what we are missing out on just so we can keep Don Cherry and Coronation Street on that network that is suppose to make us proud.

For most plans the overage is capped at $50 for Rogers. Used to be $25 until this past May 1st...guessing in anticipation of netflix.

just remember for most movies 1 hour = 1 gig streamed.

so if you have capped internet you should be watchful .

I don't believe that either the CRTC or their cable company buddies have ANYTHING to do with why Netflix has reduced content in Canada.

I believe (don't know for a fact) that it is because Netflix hasn't licensed more content than that for the Canadian market. They're probably waiting to see what the uptake is, and will license more aggressively if they gain enough market share to make it cost effective to pay the licensing fees.

I imagine they spent the last year or so furiously working on licensing content for Canada and launched the service when they figured they'd secured enough titles to create a viable service.

It pisses me off too, on the other hand at $8/month I figure if I watch even 2-3 movies it's well worth the price. If I find I get through a month without watching at least a couple I'll cancel.

At $8 a month I'm quite happy. I like that they have a lot of indy or lesser known stuff that you wouldn't find in blockbuster. As for bandwidth usage I typically exceed the cap so using netflix doesn't make a difference to me. If it wasn't for sports I'd have trouble justifying having cable.

Also, I think it's neat that you can have several machines activated to one account. So you could be at home or on your laptop or use your iphone or ipad to watch stuff anywhere you can get internet access.

I was planning on signing up however I checked for movies I would want to watch and over 80% were not available in Canada.

Now that NinjaVideo is gone I use http://re1ease.net/ for free. Decent line up of TV shows including US TV shows not shown in Canada or shown much later in the season. And a reasonable selection of free movies.

Netflix.ca is a long way from having anything current

no Hotspot Shield hides your IP address so you can get into American sites like the network ones, Hulu and the Yank version of Netflix. All the ones that the CRTC and the big cable companies are trying to keep us away from, so we can be suckered into paying their insane monopoly style prices. Just check out the American Netflix and you willl see how much the Canadian version sucks ass, and I am not talking about sweet tasty Shakira ass either :)

I find Apple TV is the best choice to watch the handful of shows I do (no cable for me). All in all, I still tend to download torrents. I'm very intimate with my computer when it comes to entertainment.
