I signed up for the free trial. Free is a great price. $8/month is pretty good too.
Quality of the player is pretty good. I have it hooked up through a PC, and thinking about buying a PS2 just to be a netflix + blueray player. Prefer PC games so the PS2 would probably just be for that. I'd prefer to buy an XBox but its netflix support isn't available yet and it doesn't come with the built in bluray player so likely PS2 it is. Not interested in a Wii for whatever reason--I think because I'm not a girl.
Selection of movies is good, but limited. I find if you go looking for a movie they most likely do not have it, but if you browse around what they do have you can probably find something you want to watch.
Hopefully they expand their selection of movies. I heard someone say the reason the selection is so limited is that they are still negotiating license agreements with content owners and that it's an ongoing effort--in that case hopefully the selection will improve as they license more and more content.
I am cancelling my Rogers cable tv sevice down to a minimum number of channels as I think netflix offers a better selection of movies, and for a tiny fraction of the price.
Still, if I want to watch major feature films looks like I still have to go to the video store and rent them. I checked previous year's academy award winners and in a typical year out of 10 films that won an award netflix will appear to have only 1 or 2 of them, which is a LOT of missing content.
