Toronto is already infested. This is happening because they banned the primary means of eliminating bed bugs.

It's funny, but I thought that Toronto had a problem with bed bugs for quite some time now. Anyways, I would assume that the exterminators must be making brisk business with the infestations. BTW, fortunately, I do not have a problem thus far.

All kidding aside, a lot of this can be attributed to the switch from hot to cold water while doing laundry. Add some colour-safe bleach, and get the joint sprayed twice. Its not easy, but they can be defeated!

It takes 120 degrees farenheit to kill all stages of bedbugs. hot water washing is not enough, you need at least 30 minutes in a drier at the hot setting to kill them off. the other problem is, by time you notice them, they're probably already inside of your matress and box spring. they are tough critters to get rid of. even once you get rid of them, there's a good chance you will bring them back home again.

Toronto is number 2 in North America for bedbugs & the problem gets worse. Bedbugregistry.com will tell you how your building stands. This isn't a game for poor dudes man. It's a reality. My own building had them. World travel and the eliminiation of DDT is the reason they've returned.

I would suspect that, on top of world travel which increases the probability of bedbugs (along with other insects) with new locations to infest, the increasing number of people living in high-rise buildings in the city may also account for the rise of the bedbug problem, as bedbugs not only hide inside the mattress and the boxspring, but also hide in crevices within buildings (high-rise buildings have plenty of those). Furthermore, high-rise buildings by definition are densely populated, giving bedbugs a large pool to prey upon.
