Wallstreet is the ultimate conformist. He does not like to see anyone on the street doing anything else other than walking, or talking on cellphone and keeping to themselves. Anyone deviating from being his perfect citizen should be condemned to concentration camp (ie. shelter or mental institution). I vote he would be the most likely to be scared shitless if he was talked to by a stranger on the street.

Public washrooms? I've never seen one in Toronto. I remember reading about a new one on Queen's Quay, but it made the newspaper because it's one of a kind and an unknown thing in this city. It also costs money to use.

Like Lady Raven said, some of these homeless if not most suffer from mental illnesses, depression, substance abuse, all defined as diseases. For the young on the street, it's not disease but bad home situations.
Having said that, there's still an argument not to give them money but a pair of gloves, a nap sack or food is better cuz it doesn't feed their addictions, if they have one.
For those that insist on cleaning your windshield, I would agree with Wallstreet that they could find a job somewhere but maybe they don't have the support system or home base to get one (how many employers would hire homeless people without ID, etc.?).

These type of threads always reminds me of former Maple Leaf great, Harvey "Busher" Jackson. During his retirement years it was rumoured that he was seen outside old Maple Leaf Garden begging for spare change.
I don't get much compassion, although being a decent guy that I am, I don't brutally rape women by say, talking to them or having anything to do with them.
Just saying if an SP was complaining about not being able to walk downtown without being hit up for some hetrosexualism I wonder if some of the demands for understanding from people on this thread would also apply on that one.
For that matter I wonder if the people who bitch about the homeless bitch about guys who actually do badger 100 women on a day to play the odds. I haven't seen it, usually such comments when made get little if any comment.
I'm not bitter, personally I think the system is fucked up, can't get on the dole without an address [here at least] and can't get an address without being on the dole, never mind that 600 bucks a month in this small burb would be pressing the limits. It seems to get on disability [which does pay out well] you have to have a decent job under the table, those who are truely fucked up can't get it. I've also heard that they turn people down the first time almost on standard operating principle.
I just want to be left alone when I walk down the street, once in a while is one thing, but downtown, those homeless... well as they say, your right to move your fist ends at my face.

I did a TERB poll recently on abodes and 8 TERBIES ticked off the "I am homeless" box.
LadyRaven took words right out of my mouth! We live in a cold cold society, it seems less and less people care about others, we all live in a fast paced life, with focus on money money money. I am not saying just give homeless money, but sometimes I do care about them, their thoughts, their lives etc... I have talked to a few of them, one was deaf and it motivated me to learn sign language. It's not just all about money or selfish shallow ego like Wallstreet.
