Attorneys general call for Craigslist to get rid of adult services ads.

Attorneys general in 17 states have banded together to call on Craigslist, the online classified ad website, to discontinue its adult services section...

This is a non-story. Even if they get rid of craigslist, another will spring up to take it's place (and there's lot of others right now). It's all political grandstanding to be able to say they shut down craigslist. Remember how they took down Napster? And we all know how (in)effective that was...

Theser are American A-Gs who enforce American laws. The only 'bleeding into Ontario' will be because some Ontarians have no dea that our laws are different and get all their news from American sources.

Or because CL decides they can ignore a distinctly different market the size of California and decide to just lump Canada in w/ whatever they decide to for the bulgy population belly in the middle of North America.

CL is owned by EBAY, CL is not making any money at this time. They are waiting for all the newspapers to fold and they will clean up on the classified ads when there is no one around offering small daily ads. If CL gives in, they will be on the edge of a slippery slope. If they can be pressured to not offer adult ads, then what is next? Imagine loosing the revenues for 2 million adult ads a day around the world. These are possible future revenues.
As for the politicians, this is a political move to show the public that they are doing something. If they really want to make a difference, send the LE out to do a sting on one or two ads and publicize the fact the if you advertise on CL, we know where to find you.

The general public does not even pay attention to these ads. Its just the media, a news report and focused on Craiglist as the target. Craiglist agreed to report suspicious ads back in 2006, that may harbor underage victims. This report shows no such victims.

What it showed was an interview with a prostitute claiming to use Craiglist for advertising, stating, does n't make this by choice, but rather work in some professional job.

Also, the reporter sets up an advertisement and begins to ask callers there names. The facts are the media has a habit of giving unbiased facts and truth about a story. They also have a habit of blowing a story out of the portion.

The only other thing to come out of this is the reality the police enjoy shifting the blame, in relations to escort advertisement. Even Craig asked," the reporter if she has reported questionable ads."

Her answer," Why is it my responsibility?"

The reporter in this only show me her real concern is get the story to the editor and getting her pay cheque.... As for the politicians a lot probably hire the girls off Craig's.

If you want some insight as to why the USA is sinking into the mud just listen to any of these Attorneys General talking about this noble law enforcement effort of theirs. I heard one of these pricks on the radio yesterday going on about how prostitution "victimizes" women and Craigslist promotes trafficking of underage girls. Nothing these guys can do will change the fact that some men are always going to want to pay for sex and some women will always be willing to take the cash. The trafficking and victimization that does exist is mostly a result of prostitution being illegal and thus impossible to regulate. If we Americans started regulating and taxing the sex trade a lot of problems could be solved. This probably will never happen here, our religious crazies would rather run America into the ground than deal with sexual issues realistically. And yes, some of these same right-wing assholes are the guys patronizing the underage hookers and street trannies...
