You'll need to see Paradise Island. Go check out Atlantis. I remember a restaurant in there that has an aquarium in it that you must see. There is also a huge casino in there if you're into gambling.

Take an ocean expidition. Snorkelling was great...wish I knew how to scuba dive as there are lots of good dives in that area.

been many many time ... always to Atlantis. Is saving 100 $$ worth having to drive back across the boarder then an hour back to toronto ???

Also, Atlantis is an incredible place but it is very expensive. A cheap lunch of 2 burgers and 2 fries and 2 pops can be $45 - 50 bucks. Also the drinks are anywhere from 9 - 14 depending on what you drink.

If you go and don't think about the money and don't try and cheap out you can have a wonderful experience but I have had a few friends that went for 4 nights and hated it because they are cheap fawkers.

any questions feel free t o pm me.

Yes, as the op said, food is very expensive.
They have a meal plan now, which can be quick economical.
don't just stay on the resort, there are lots to do and see on the island.
try a fish fry, see the straw market, go on a tour of the downtown, take a water taxi and see the resort from a different perspective.

as for cost, look into packages for the best value.

I guess you'll be saving $200 in total (I assume your gf is going with you)? You'll have to pay for parking in Buffalo (may have to pay for parking in TO too unless someone will take and pick you up to the airport) and depending on what time the Buff flight leaves you may want to drive down the night before so that could mean a hotel room. Then, there is the hassle; as already mentioned. The one thing that we don't know is the difference in extra costs for each tickets (e.g., checked bag fees, etc.) These could be basically the same but you'd need to find out. If it were only the $200 savings I'd just fly out of TO. Hvae fun!

If you want Atlantis look for Comfort Suites to stay at. It is across the street and you get to use ALL Atlantis facilities. It is a significant savings.
Be vary careful about the beach, those waves can be dangerous. If you see any flag besides GREEN, just stay out.
Also, the larger lazy river (or whatever they call it at the main site) with the rapids is great but be cautious when going through the rapids.
I have seen people bang there heads, feet or hands on the concrete walls.
Also, make sure you get travel insurance and go to the Doctor's Hospital (private) if you need to - you do not want to go near the public hospital.

You want to go to Atlantis where they charge you an arm & a leg just to walk the grounds AND you're concerned about saving money by flying out of Buffalo?

Go somewhere else for a better-bang on your vacation buck. If you want to go to a water park for vacation, there are a few around Ontario. If you want to take your GF somewhere nice & reasonably affordable, Atlantis ain't the place.

Yes, Bahamas is expensive. It's one of the playgrounds for rich Americans. So is Hawaii.

You'll see more Canadians in places like Cuba and Dominican...because they are cheaper.

ST - excellent advice! I have family in Nassau and on more than one occasion have had a little "trouble" at Cabbage beach. The comfort suites is a great option as well.

hey guys

thxs for the prompt responses...its been very helpful.

we checked out a few places and i guess we wont be "cheap" and we havnt been on a vaca for over 2 yrs so its okay to indulge?....got a pretty good package with flight from expedia for 7 days with round-trip at COVE atlantis for approx $5250.

now im assuming that price does not include food. my gf is a very picky eater (health freak and doesnt drink LOL big bummer somtimes).....so not really sure if going with the meal plan is the best thing? IF YOU GUYS CAN HELP WITH THIS, let me know or have experience with "taking the meal plan" vs "not opting for meal plan"....and how things fared out. the meal plan is approx $1k each or 75$ /per day, which is good considering the food is pricey there.

so all in all, let me know. expedia did give us a good deal on flight and cove atlantis vs the actual atlantis website.

your thoughts guys, cheers !

I had no idea the Bahamas were so expensive now. I went years ago to Freeport and the place was so Americanized that it didn't seem like I had left Florida. At the time I just thought of it as a relatively cheap destination for those who couldn't afford to go to somewhere more exotic.
