Surfing TERB at work. Am I safe?

Yeah seriously dude, they know every site you go to and one like this would be embarassing to get busted on.
My company is fairly lax with surfing the net as long as you dont overdo it, but I never go to questionable sites like porn or terb cuz I know the IT guys see everything.
I keep it to regular news sites or regular forums.

That's my view.
I suspect I could get away with it in my organization, as I don't think we track how people are using the Internet. But I would never take the chance.
Several years ago Pratt and Whitney Canada ( aircraft engine manufacturers ) had to do staff cut backs. Knowing that most people surf the internet for personal business during work hours, the management fired people that they no longer needed with the excuse that they were surfing porn on company time. Of course the people that they needed badly did not have any record of porn surfing on their computers. So watch out, this is a way for companies to cut staff and make them go quietly without a golden parachute.
Yes, I knew an owner of a medium-sized business who tracked all the dubious expense account items people put through. He didn't let on that he knew, but documented it in case he ever wanted to fire them for something else. After getting away with little things, $20 here and there, they got more ambitious and started expensing leather Tumi luggage for business trips, helicopter rides, home office equipment, personal training sessions at the gym, hotel rooms for trysts with lovers, etc. He always kept track. One time he wanted to fire a guy for some screw up and the guy was saying he couldn't be fired for that, and the owner pulled out a file and said "I've been looking over your expense accounts for the last two years and have some questions about some rather unusual items..." The guy resigned and left.
Just becasue they don't want to bother firing or confronting you doesn't mean they don't know. I used to bribe the IT dept to look the other way at my company...at Christmas each year I'd take the IT guys out for a feast of 5 star dining and drinks. They never passed on my internet surfing to anyone LOL.
To anyone who thinks running from a U3 is helpful in hiding their tracks, log into your cheap 39.95 router at home and turn on logging. check some of those special sites of yours. see what your router shows. now imagine a router that cost $10,000. Just imagine. You can't hide. Don't do it. Not once. Log files can be archived forever, or just until the boss wants to get rid of you.
We do see everything, but we don't have time to go around monitoring everything that everyone does. Most of us IT guys couldn't care less what you do or where you surf. As long as you don't raise a red flag. As long as you don't infect your pc with viruses, spywares or download torrents or large files that would clog up the network.. we don't care.
That ones that do care are your Supervisors and HR and if they bring up the issue to us then we have to start monitoring then report back to them.
But then again it varies from company to company.
The funniest thing I've seen from one of the employees here is that he went on Terb from his blackberry. LOL he was complaining about the slowness of his web browser, just before I cleared his cache, i saw terb and all the other sites on it.... Didn't really give him much trouble. Just told him to clear his cache once in a while. Oh yeah.. this was on a company phone... haha

+1.I work at a family-run business office, so I'm on TERB anytime I'm alone in the office, which is fairly often. They rarely check my history, but I'm careful enough to cover my tracks.
Also depends how high up the corporate ladder you are AND what the company policies are.
In some small offices, it might be tolerated amongst male staff, however, I wouldn't boast about it or advertise it.
When you log off Terb, it says that cookies are cleared. But you should also clear your temporary internet folder and your history of recently visited sites.
Of course. To even ponder the question should be reason for concern. TERB is great, but at work? And while we're at it, try not to send any threats or incriminating EMAILS either. Unbelievable.
You must be a policy oriented manager who lives by doctrine of rules and regulations. My company exploits me and I will take every single opportunity to steal from them what I can(time in this case)
