Actually, these stores are usually funding organized crime groups.
umm no, they are not. Unless you considered a setup where the owner hires employees to sell the DVDs (and therefore escapes service with the notices/demands to sease and desist and as a result has a defence of having no knowledge as to what's going on in the store) an organized crime group.

Don't understand why people don't just download it yourselves. It's simple and not time consuming.

Another thing I wanted to add. A co-worker buys these bootleg movies and out of curiousity, I wanted to see the quality of these things. They're awful, I could do better than this.
It comes in all different kinds of quality. Cam, 50%, 90%, dvd lol. All depends on how long you are willing to wait.

I hated those places. You pay your money, you say "thank-you", and not response from them. I will not support these places. They like many other asian owned businesses are out for the money only and could care less about upsetting a few customers for their bottom line.

which is one of many reasons why i purchase my media through legitimate and legal means. i have invested time and money in quite the capable home theatre set up. as such, i'll only accept the best in audio and visual fidelty that readily available consumer technology can offer (i.e., Blu-ray).

they "could care less"? in other words, they do care.
that, strangely as it seems, is the american way of saying it. I know. Doesn't make sense. Sounds uneducated. ahhhhh. That explains it. Like axe instead of ask. Just poor language skills. And it's always funny when someone wants the folk on the low end of our society to kiss their bums. You give someone a dollar, say thanks and they ignore you? What do you expect? They don't like you.

Yet another thread going in the wrong direction. Copying is a universal human trait (whether for profit or otherwise). But to answer the question, there is a store (BMV Books?) across from the Toronto Reference Library that sells a wide variety of DVDs for $6. I know there is some sort of deal for buying more, but I cannot remember what it is. I went recently and was surprised they sold DVDs.

They were caught for intellectual property theft and were severely fined. This is a concept Asian people don't have a clue about nor do they see it the same way as Westerners. Copying isn't regarded as even unethical.
Regarding behaviour as unethical is certainly and entirely subjective, but regarding behaviour as unlawful is certainly and entirely up to the law of the land.

Wow here is another thread that will have racist overtones - again.

I am a "Westener" and I download everything from TV to movies.
Going on a generalization theme. It's the problem with society today. When we have an opportunity to break the law with little to no consequences, we will. Keep going. Who's it harming right? Why bother discovering anything or spending the time to invent anything if some putz like you comes alongs and say "thanks, I'll just steal that now". No wonder we don't value education any more.

Haha that's interesting. Isnt there a thing called supply/demand. So you're saying only Asians make these bootlegs and only Asians buying them?
What about the people who download in their homes, or others who sell As well but just not in stores. All Asians as well i guess . Those damn Asians huh! It's gotta be them right cuz noone else is smart enough to start this type of biz haha
Yeah. I hear that from the Mexican and Colombian drug cartels "we're just selling man, we ain't buying or using."

in fairness artists would continue doing what they do just as well even if their houses and yachts were a bit smaller and their cocaine habit was a bit more modest.
hence the concept of 'starving artist'.

Just in case someone still has their hopes up, the $1 dvd shops at dr flea were all closed last weekend. now they cost $5 which is a little steep for a movie for me.

invest in a good DVD Burner, download good quality movies off the internet and burn them,,,hell! I think windows 7 even allows you to view whatever u are doing on ur pc onto ur TV
Correction: invest in a media player box (e.g. Patriot Box Office $100), forget about burning and converting and waiting. Watch HD too.

I have 3 1tb drives filled with thousands of movies and tv shows from old to new downloaded off the internet. with a click of a button and a drag into my utorrent my movies would be finished and ready to watch in an hour. isn't that much better than going to those places? I probably have more movies than blockbuster lol, and it fits all in my palm.
