When I watch shows that cover the latest news about celebrities' lives, I find myself very often saying "Who is he? I've never seen or heard of him before." Then I feel dumb, and reckon I would feel embarrassed if other people realize I don't know the person. When I google the person, it's usually someone like an actor who had a role in some movie I never saw, a host or actor of a show I never watch, a top athlete of a sport I rarely watch, the leader of some small country, the newest lover of someone really famous, someone who had one month of fame 3 years ago, etc... Nevertheless, somehow I feel I should at least know who these people are, and what they look like, in case it comes up in conversation or whatever. And so often I recognize the face from somewhere, but can't remember the name or where I've seen the person from. Am I making too big a fuss over this? Any of you guys feel inadequate because you don't know many people being mentioned in the media?

Don't waste your time on celebrities. If they are a big deal, you will hear about them. Most of them are not, so don't worry about it.

I once asked a friend if he would want to get tickets to see the hot Sharapova who was in Toronto, and he asked "Who? Sheryl Crow?" I thought he was a dumbass, because she is like the hottest chick in tennis. So the same people can think of me if I don't know someone.

Different people have different interests.
Some know all the NHL hockey players and all their stats, etc. Others, it's other sports. Some it's the business world. Some it's the music industry. And yes, some it's the Hollywood crowd.
And then there are the terbites who know all the MPAs and SPs and all their stats and where they work and how much they charge and what servicesa re offered, etc.
To each his or her own.

I don't get why you'd care. If you're interested in trashy celebrity culture, more power to you, but if you're not, why give a shit? Do you spend your time hanging around with 14 year old girls? Adults don't actually give a crap about Paris Hilton (sorry if that's a dated reference), do they?

Celebrewhat? I don't give a rat's ass about "celebrities" and don't worry about not knowing about pop culture bullshit either. I spent an afternoon drinking with a well known (now) hollywood actor back in the 80's and had no idea who the guy was. We had a great time. After he left, the waitress thanked me for being so polite and not making a scene and how was he blah blah blah. I had no idea who the guy was and was surprised to find out that I had been drinking with a "star". Never run into him again, and I doubt he would know who I was if I did.

I kissed Carol Pope a couple of times (on the cheek friendly type). But only because I thought she was hot and I knew her husband.

No, they don't. I don't know who a lot of the young popular celebrities are either. Most of these new celebrities that I see on TMZ or magazine covers, etc. I'm completely clueless about. Doesn't bother me at all.

I agree.
However I bet if a terbite hooked up with her, he'd be on here faster than we could imagine to tell us all about it.
And even if she's a bit of a twit, I can't imagine any of us turning down that opportunity if it was to present itself.

LOL

Ok, these people are famous (really) right now:

David Cameron
Justin Bieber
Usain Bolt
Simon Baker
Jon Cryer
Karl Wolf
Rafael Nadal
Robert Pattinson
Ke$ha
Pao Gasol

Does anybody here immediately know all ten of these top celebrities, and what they look like?

Let me give it a shot (and no wiki cheating either!)

Ok, these people are famous (really) right now:

David Cameron - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Justin Bieber - Canadian singer famous for being young and inspiring a popular haircut (don't ask me to name any of his actual music though)
Usain Bolt - Fastest man in the world
Simon Baker - no clue
Jon Cryer - The actor from the 80's?
Karl Wolf - I know who Karl Rove is...
Rafael Nadal - Just won Wimbledon
Robert Pattinson - US General recently relieved of his command
Ke$ha - sings that really awful TikTok song
Pao Gasol - ???

Does anybody here immediately know all ten of these top celebrities, and what they look like?

stop watching those celebrity shows. just keep aware of the latest news but what is said on terb. there's enough pop cultural references here to keep you suitably informed.

This is a pathetic example of poor self image. Sad. Very sad to even ask this question.
why put the guy down? he asked a question. (isn't this the guy that went to england to meet his true love though he had never met her??? not everyone is on the same level of social interaction. why knock him for asking a question on the internet??? this is the place to do it. goodness. it will save him 1000s of dollars in the future.

It is not important to know all the gossips and stuff about these celebrities, but isn't it important to at least know who they are? Your hot date may think you are a dumbass if you constantly ask "Who???"
