* Champ Brock Lesnar vs. interim champ Shane Carwin (heavyweight title-unification bout)
* Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Chris Leben
* Matt Brown vs. Chris Lytle
* Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
* Kurt Pellegrino vs. George Sotiropoulos

Predictions if I may:

Lesnar vs. Carwin ........Carwin. Ring rust will be a factor for Brock and by the time he feels comfortable Carwin will have landed many times.

Akiyama vs. Chris Leben. Leben. Akiyama was all excited at facing Wandy and the letdown will affect him emotionaly.

Brown vs. Lytle............Lytle. Has already beaten him once and his superior ground game will be the difference.

Pellegrino vs. Sotiropoulos.Sotiropoulos.The rising star of the division will not disappoint in what could be a ground battle.

Bonnar vs Soszynski. Soszynski. I would like to see Bonnar win but his game hasn't really evolved with the sport.

You make some good points and I have read and watched the vids from Lesnar's camp.

While very impressive I believe nothing makes up for the lack of actual cage time.

Also remember that Carwin is with the Jackson camp so you know he will be prepared for the worst.

This is a bonefided great match up and very hard to call.

The PPV numbers will be through the roof.

Going to be an exciting fight night for certain. With Lesnar doing some training, and receiving some coaching from Randy Couture, I am going to have to pick him. Though he will have some ring rust, the other thing to factor is the learning of new skills. Lesnar is still developing many techniques as an MMA fighter. The time off, has given him more time, so he is not just preparing for another fight, he is learning. If you look at the training videos with him and Couture, you can see Lesnar learning some submission skills, that should be downright scary for Carwin. Carwin will land some shots no doubt, however I think Brock will be able to take a fair number of shots, then gather himself, and take Carwin to the ground.
In terms of other fights on the card, really interested to see Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski. The last time out was a brawl, perhaps this time we will see a wider range of skills from both fighters. Tough to call, but I am inclined to go with Soszynski, as I feel his is more well rounded over all. As well, given Bonnar is easily opened up, and a heavy bleeder, that will(though it should not) carry weight with the judges, should it go that far.
The Pellegrino vs. Sotiropoulos fight, I'm going with Sotiropoulos, just a feeling on that fight.
Also on the under card, will be interesting to see if Kendall Grove can bounce back.

Weak card after Wandy dropped out, Leben is a very poor replacement
Just hoping Carwin beats Lesnar - every Lesnar loss means we get closer to him ..... well..... to be blunt ..... getting the fuck out of our lives forever

My picks (and lets remember last month I went 4/5):
Carwin - 2nd rd TKO
Akiyama - unanimous decision
Chris Lytle - 1st rd KO
Soszynski - unanimous decision
Sotiropoulos - 2nd rd submission

It's what must be in Carwin's contract. If he beats Lesnar and continues to dominate like he has he will be making big money in no time. And if he gets knock out and fight of the night he would get an extra bunch of g's which doesn't seem unlikely given his record so far. Still taking into account his last two fights were his first "big" names I'm going with Lesnar by bull rush. I don't think Carwin will be able to have his dinner tonight. The fact Lenar has gone southpaw now vs traditional is interesting and I think his wrestling is going to be a deciding factor.

Akiyama over Leben. Leben is always a blast to watch slug it out but this Japanese-Korean has quite the set of credentials.

The rest I agree with Oracle.

Most of Lesnar's take from this fight is an "up front appearance fee".

Kind of like Tiger showing up for $1M to golf in Dubai once a year.

Carwin has been impressive so far. Lesnar has relied on his size for his wins, he has had a massive size advantage in all his bouts so far. Not this time. carwin first round, again.

Lesnar vs Carwin: This fight is really too close to call...Carwin has better stand up...Lesnar has a Powerful and Fast Takedown and great Top Control...If he takes Carwin down that might be it for Carwin....It might even come down to who has the better Gas Tank...I'm gonna go with Lesnar...He's gonna take him down and keep him down and tire him out....Lesnar will win in the third round by Referee Stoppage...
Ring Rust might be the big X-Factor but I'll still say Lesnar...

Akiyama vs Leben: Akiyama...Picks him apart then takes him down and submits him...I'll say Rear Naked Choke in the Third....

Lytle vs Brown: Lytle's striking will take Brwon apart especially his boxing...Lytle by Decision...Brown is gonna get beat up....though I could see this being a back and forth kind of fight (though Lytle will get the better of the exchanges)

Sosynzski vs Bonnar: Sosynzski will pummel Bonnar...Bonnar doesn't have the technique or power to beat Sosynzki....The Pole will win by TKO in the Third Round...

Sotriopolous vs Pelligrino: Sotripolous has better BJJ and better striking..He'll dominate Pelligrino and soften him for a third round Submission.....Rear Naked Choke

I think Carwin gassed out with all those punches to Lesnars' face and allowed an easy take down and a side choke. Fighters should punch to the body when their opponent covers up like that. Cain Velasquez will get Lesnar next.

A question for the MMA aficionados, and I know this falls in the refs discretion but what is "intelligently defending" yourself? Pretty sure I've seen fights stopped with similar pounding that Carwin was inflicting in the first round.

Having asked that, Lesnar is learning fast and I don't see anyone at this time that can beat him. He took a real beating and still came out on top. Cudos to him.

The cynic in me suspects that Dana was hoping for a Carwin win - imagine the PPV for that rematch.

"Intelligently Defending Yourself" pretty much means as long as your moving and try to be active (defensively or offensively) the referee will not stop the fight...

You probably have seen fights where the ref has stopped the fights with similar situations in regards to the Carwin/Lesnar fight (and sometimes even earlier -way earlier) but refs (the good refs) have usually let the Championship fights go on longer - to make sure that the Championship fight is decided by the fighters and not by the ref...

The referee made a good call in this fight and let the fight go on....Lesnar definitely made an effort to show the ref that he was fine and he was "intelligently defending himself"...

Good fight by Lesnar...He showed heart and toughness and finished off with a nice submission....

One of the best cards I have seen in a long time.

Lesnar showed his superior conditioning and withstood a beating in the first round to submit a gassed
Carwin in the second. I'm guessing Cain is up next.

Very impressive performance by the once almost forgotten Leben as he catapults himself into the mix of the 185 lb division. He's calling out Wandy and it could be a great one.

Chris Lytle continues to remind us that he is more than a brawler with a slick submission over Matt Brown.

Bonnar revives his career and avoids being cut with nice TKO.

Sotiropoulos has to be getting close to title contention as he is looking more impressive every time out.

I'm going to say that I'm very surprised Brock came back from that first round beating. I always thought he would be the quintessential bully and quit when the going got tough and he was put in compromising position, let alone given a beat-down. Incredible will and stamina shown by Lesnar - he's scarier than I thought. Perhaps the haters <not-so thinly veiled shot - wink> can STFU now?!?
