The first few years he did an admirable job. In the last year or two his increasing sense of entitlement and growing arrogance has been a problem, and it's a problem that the voters of Canada need to resolve.
Problem is, iggy has always been just as arrogant, in fact moreso imo, and he's not even PM.

Harper has done an admirable job as PM considering the constant undermining of the parliamentary process by the opposition parties. He's far from perfect but he has shown good leadership skills over the course of the economic crisis. When he talks on the intl stage the other leaders listen. Despite being a lone voice he was able to have the intl community drop the proposal of a global bank tax. Chretien or Martin were never able to get other countries to listen to Canada like Harper has done. Not since Mulroney have we seen a strong statesman as our PM.
Don't be silly. It's Harper and only Harper who's undermined Parliamentary process, from his fixed elections act to 'emergency' prorogation—not once but twice—to defying Parliamentary Committees. The only leadership he showed during the economic crisis was to abandon his promise he's never ever run a deficit so he could run the biggest deficit ever. To get us out of a crisis he now claims we Canadians were never really in (which, if true, would be thanks to the surpluses and regulations he inherited from Martin). When he talks on the international stage even Hilary sets him straight. Publicly. The guys who want the bank tax still want it; no real discussions have been held yet.

Meantime, as we watch more than a billion protect 'us' from a few rock throwing malcontents—maybe—how many billions went in that sponsorgate the Cons harp on? At least we won the referendum. What use will you make of the newly paved—and secure—Bunny Trail?

There's good to be said about everyone, but you haven't hit it for Harper, and you're ducking the real reason it's time he went: He's the same failure at winning voter support now—after five whole years of showing us what he can do—as he was when he first toppled Martin. You cannot call yourself a statesman if you cannot get the votes. BM the PM showed us that.

I mean arrogant in the sense that Harper believes he can do whatever he likes and that he's accountable to non-one. Iggy is just snooty, which is not as bad honestly. I'm not a big fan of Iggy but Harper has GOT to go.

He's become a danger to our democracy in his contempt for it.

Besides being a faithless liar and incompetent, he's repeatedly failed at the one thing any politician's supposed to be good at: getting votes. After almost a full term of five years he's accomplished next to nothing (unless you count production of rancour and discord) and his poll numbers consistantly hover right where they were when he started. In spite of all the advantages of incumbency. his only real appeal is to that hard right rump he started with.

If he wasn't up against a College of Liberal Losers he'd have been long gone already.
Ok so he has not raised his level of support ( debatable but fine) , lets see any number of things have gone wrong , economy, prorouging parliment ,G20 spending , RCMP screw ups, bodies coming home from afghanistan, prisoner treatment issues, all of this and his support has not dropped, maybee some people think he is doing a reasonable job.

Not to mention he is the leader most trusted to run the country at the moment, a( assorted polls)

Not to bad for a minority parliment

Spoken like a true conservative ..what a fucking joke
No...I'm a true conservative. Heck I even voted for Reform in their first election in '87 out here.
And yet I agree wholeheartedly with everything Fuji has written about Harpo and his thugocracy. I might add that he never even attempts to sell his policies to the canadian people, never deigns even to address us in press conferences or other fora. He converted a 13 billion surplus into a 48 billion deficit without spending in a way that will prepare the country for the recovery, as in a carefully layed out infrastructure program. He's gotta go.

Harper sure is not the most competent but he is still better than the scandalous liberals who abused their majority power. Anyway, the whole Canadian political system is a joke and that's why NOTHING gets done except for higher and higher taxes for poorer and poorer services.

.......and if its time for Harper to go, who do you propose should replace him? Iggy? Jack (in the box) Layton? As it stands Harper is the only serious politician we have and I dont see any others on the horizon who can do the job he's doing. (unless Mike Harris is willing to come back?)
If he were as big of horse's ass as the liberal media portray him as, not to mention the 3 other opposition parties, dont you think they would have turfed him by now? The fact of the matter is this, none of the other 3 parties have what it takes to run the country. And why is it when a liberal does something they always think that they know best, I have had enough Liberal double talk to last me a life time. They (liberals) remind me of my doctor, when he tells me I need an ennema and won't tell me why, just says "because I say so". Look at how many times the Liberals (both federal and provincal) promise one thing then do the opposite? Axing the GST, national daycare, no new taxes, no new taxes, no new taxes!!!! I forgot they refer to these as fees, funding that gets put on hold (after promising the moon and the stars). Shall I go on? By the way wasn't it Paul Martin (a liberal) the prime architect of the G20, who stated on the radio last week (John Moore show) that the G20 was a good thing for Toronto and the costs involved pale in comparison to the benefits that such an summit renders.

I don't think Iggy is arrogant, he is more pompous and a bit of a blowhard. But I don't see him having the Harper megalomania.

OH MY GOD .. Don't even joke about that !!!
At least he did what he promised, how many other politicians can say they kept their word? And just remember one thing we all knew where he stood on issues when we voted for him. Unlike Cretien, Martin, McGuinty, Rae etc....who all said and promised whatever they had to to get into office then told us all to go F*CK ourselves when they got in!

Hehehe, people were so used to the Liberals telling us lies. When Mike Harris got into power and actually did what he promised, Ontarians were shocked.. OMG!

I guess it would have to be for lack of better alternatives.

As it stands Harper is the only serious politician we have
I don't think that's true.

and I dont see any others on the horizon who can do the job he's doing.
The trouble is that power corrupts and Harper has been completely corrupted by too many years in power and has gone from being an effective politician to being a dangerous one. His contempt for Parliament, his contempt for the public, his contempt for accountability, his contempt for transparency, his massive overblown sense of entitlement, his desire to centralize all power in his own hands--these things are a threat to Canada.

He need to go even if we don't have very good alternatives. I am not arguing that Iggy would be a better PM than Harper was a few years ago. I am arguing that Harper is now an actual threat to Canada and almost anyone would be better than that.

Harris didn't do what he promised. He TRIED to do what he promised. There's a difference. He executed poorly and many of his initiatives ultimately failed due to poor execution.

For example, "work for welfare", is a great idea, but it died because Harris implemented it in such a lunkheaded way that he pissed off everyone and ultimately was not successful in getting that in place. There are many, many examples of that.

McGuinty is the polar opposite of Harris. He essentially has no ideas, he blows in the wind, flip flops, follows the polls, and reacts to whatever is getting media attention. He's more of a follower than a leader in that regard. However McGuinty implements his wind-blowing effectively and although he hasn't had too many original ideas he has competently implemented the things the polls told him to do--he actually does get stuff done, whereas Harris mostly only tried to get stuff done.

It would be great to have someone in who BOTH has good ideas AND good execution. It's been a long while since we've had anyone like that at either level of government.

All that means is that 'the one's what brung him still are the only ones who can stand to dance with him'. That in spite of the ineptitude of the guys opposite, and in spite of whatever he may have accomplished.

Considering that would make for his third straight minority—that's three elections lost—next time out, two outta three voters continue to say that's pretty bad.

Time to change the guard.
It was time to change the guard a few years ago. The problem is who are the alternatives? We have a serious lack of competent political leaders in our country at every level of government.

Yeah, let's bring back a guy who was the king of entitlement culture and the first PM not fluent in either official language. No thanks!

Harris implemented his 'no-sense' revolution, and then bailed. He never faced an election based on what he did while in power.

As much as people in Ontario say they won't vote for Bob Rae based on his record as Ontario Premier, they also wouldn't vote for Mike Harris federally either.
Must have missed something... THe common sense revolution was the campaign in the first election he won.... I seem to recall a second majority unless old age has dimmed my memory...

Or you just need a history lesson
