Is it better to make an account on .ca or .com ?

Obviously .com has a wider selection but what about the shipping, how the hell does shipping work on this unorganized website? for books i am talking about.

Essentially you have higher shipping rates with amazon.com
Ex: On both sites you pay a flat shipment rate and per item rate:
On Amazon.com, those rates are 4.99 and 3.99 respectively
On Amazon.ca, those rates are 3.95 and 1.95 respectively

So you would pay almost 9 bucks of shipping for 1 book on Amazon.com, and almost 5 bucks for shipping for 1 book on Amazon.ca
For each additional book, increase by either 3.99 with Amazon.com, or 1.95 with Amazon.ca.

Shipping rates are higher on the American site, but book prices are usually lower

I have an account on both (and co.uk too) because sometimes you can't get everything in Canada - but, if you buy a fair bit you can get free shipping on orders over $39 in Canada. That offer isn't available to you in the US if you're shipping internationally - so, sometimes that can make a difference too.

If the item you are purchasing is in-stock, shipping from amazon.ca can often be much faster. It's not unusual to have an order arrive at your doorstep within two days.

Now that amazon has the go-ahead to set up a warehouse in Canada, you have to believe the range of items available at amazon.ca for immediate shipping will expand. This should be good news for online buyers.

I have tried to buy a notebook computer from Amazon.com but they said "items cannot be shipped to your address" during checkout. I guess it is the problem with US waranty coverage which is not valid in Canada.

Same thing for me. Better selection on .com, but most of what I want, they won't ship. Not just electronics, almost anything except books.

Thanks for that. So what is really the point of having a wider selection if they won't ship most of it to you.. Amazon really needs to clean up and fix their website. The shipping price should be in bold right under the cost of the product, you have to look so hard just to find that information. This site is horribly unorganized.

The only thing good about amazon is that the reviews are mostly 100% real

Also, when shipping from .com do you have to pay the customs duty fee on books and provincial taxes? what is the price point at which they charge taxes and customs fee

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
They've been given approval to open a Canadian warehouse, so maybe the cheaper shopping will arrive soon.

Try the link "Shipping Rate and Policies" on the botton of the page. Shipping options are clearly listed when you have an account and are one step before checking out.

Shipping is free on orders over $39 on .ca so that's a huge money saver. Shipping from .com means a lot more money as you'll also have the customs tariff, handling fee, and taxes.

For re-sales from other people, shipping is determined by the individual sellers and there's no free shipping option for orders over $39.

I buy from .ca all the time and haven't paid for shipping in years. And I get my order with 2-3 business days.
