Hi Folks,

I would like some information regarding "cougar" bars in the downtown area.

There's Maxwell's on Elgin a bit past Gilmour, haven't been there in a while but it's always had the rep of being a pretty "cougarey" place!

Also Big Daddy's on Elgin & The Lone Star east off St. Laurent. (not downtown but always good)

Remember when it was IP looneys? That certainly dates me!
That's hilarious, I loved that place as a kid.. They would cut your tie off of you had one on.. And then it was Duffs right? The buffet on the conveyer belt..

Lonestar East is for sure a great place to watch the cougars prowl, just be careful not to come home with a mountain lion.. lol

I always thought there was something inherently wrong with a pick up bar being named Big Daddy's Crab Shack

Hartwell's at the Westin was prime territory for a long time...easy pickings too, because the male competition were largely taxi drivers with limited english skills and worse hygiene.

LMAO! That pretty much sumed it up. Hartwell's closed a few years ago though.

Christ! - I remember Duffs'. It was incredibly disgusting. All the food came out of the kitchen on a conveyer belt and you stood in little stalls like cattle to fill your plate. God knows what the hell the food was, but that was the place for a lot of fat people and their obnoxious F**king kids SCREAMING at the top of their F**king lungs running around the joint. They had an ice cream machine there that dispensed as much soft ice cream as you wanted. I still get the shivers after all these years thinking about that dump. Have you ever seen the movie "soylent green"?...

Hartwells was a classic place, went there for a friends birthday once and I swear that the 4 of us were the only white people under 50 at the time. The women would come over just to stop the old guys and taxi drivers from harassing them. If you struck out at hartwell's it was time to give it up. Now some nights it wasn't the best looking crowd but normally you could do alright.

Maxwells was pretty good time also, it used to be (10 years ago) that Thurs was the best night as a woman told me one night. Thurs night is the girls going out with there friends and friday and saturday was date night

Well, we're way off the topic of Cougar Bars by this point, but..... although I was never at Duff's, the description by Jabba reminds me of the Ponderosa Steak places. Remember those? Thankfully long gone!

Upstairs at Maxwell's on a Wednesday night (Johnny Vegas night). You can dance to Rat Pack tunes and if you stick around past midnight, drag a drunk cougar home. And Big Daddy's on Thurdsays through Saturdays. The ladies in Big Daddy's get all dressed up though, so wear a suit, no tie, or a trendy shirt.

I don't recall Duffs, sounds like I didn't miss much I do however remember Ponderosa as a kid, man they had the crunchiest Jello! LOL

As for Harwell's what happens at Hartwells stayed at Hartwells, some good times were had in it's hay day!

HA! - I didn't know it was possible to get crunchy Jello.
The steaks were like cheap as shoe leather but pounded into submission so you at least had the illusion of eating chewable meat (soylent green is a pretty versatile by-product)

Yeah - I was there!
Just imagine if someone had started a food fight there? You'd have a never ending supply of cream pies to heave. Just go to the never-ending dessert conveyer belt and load up.
