Apolo hasn't won gold yet has he?

Lindsay should be your poster olympian, wins the downhill with a sore shin, and she's hot to boot.

And I don't think the US government funds it at all.....

As of this morning most gold and total medals at the games.....

The handling of Lindsay Vonn in the past week was truly American.

Her media hype machine spent so much time spreading the message and updating her injury status, that they laid the groundwork for a big excuse if she lost ( lame), or a scenario where she rised above all unlike any other athelte (which is not the case), to make her an even bigger hero.

Pathetic. And very american.

And I am not calling Vonn pathetic - she is not... her handlers and the american way they cast her was pathetic,

I think thats harsh and misguided. If you watched her skiing and not just her swimsuit pictures- she was definitely favouring her one leg. maybe you don't remember the silken lauman stories on cbc? I am not sure why a country cannot praise their own athletes without being considered pathetic or why thats wrong.

There is no problem with fans praising her or the NBC focusing on her. You clearly lack any understanding of what her agency is doing. Her sports agency representatives ... HER HANDLERS.. are intentionally timing multiple press releases to create an excuse or elevate he in victoryr... actually many US journalists are being very critical of this, including the much revered John Feinstein.

That is what is sickening - the massive exaggerations concerning the extent of her injuries and the changing uncertainty from hour to hour.... she knew she was racing, but her agency is creating fiction..

Seems Vonn didn't find a way yesterday, when she fell during her run. "I was just so drained from winning my gold medal....." Seems a lot of Americans can't be gracious in defeat.

Saw her in an interview after she won the downhill. I was watching CTV so it must have been with a Canadian reporter. She started "crying" and proclaimed "it is the best day of my life.....". OMFG !!!! That was the worst case of fake crying I have ever seen. Purely an act from start to finish of the interview. Not a genuine part in the whole thing! It must feel incredible to be at the top of the heap so why the need to put on an act? She mentioned that she was in "excruciating pain" all the days leading up to the event. A good ole Canadian girl would have just said it hurts but that she would just suck it up and do her best. The whole "Vonntourage" kept proclaining it to be the "Vonncouver" Olympics !!! The Lindsey Vonn act is too much for me to watch! Lindsey Vonn needs to move to LA and take a few acting lessons !!!! Once again an example of an American taking things way too far over the top. Loved the suprised and pure joy look and feelings that Lysacheck (sp) gave when he won the gold in Figure Skating. I'm not anti-American (except when they are competing against a Canadian lol) just anti-Vonn fakery !!!

Never criticize a downhill racer.

She wasn't being graceless, she was pissed off at herself for her lapse of focus. Her combined downhill run was even better than her gold medal effort. The German girl, who followed her, attempted to do the same and nearly pinwheeled into orbit. Considering that she could have nailed that slalom run 99% of the time she composed herself well. She must have been seething within.

There's nothing gracious about using an excuse such as "I'm tired."

Didn't the American girl who fished second to Vonn muster up enough energy to finsh second again the next day? Other than some interviews, did they have a vastly different schedule? I don't really dislike Vonn, just that poor excuse.

Gotta give the Americans credit. When they're favoured for gold they win gold. When they are predicted to finish 4th or 5th they get a medal. Most, not all, of the time Americans meet or exceed expectations. Canada rarely gets a medal unless we are favoured for gold. Then half the time all we get is silver or bronze if anything.

You do realize that this year, the Canadian teams got almost 2x the funding than the US team this year in their "Own The Podium" bid. The US speedskating team was in such bad shape that they needed The Colbert Report guy to bail them out.
