It's not even over and let me tell it's not going to make a lick of difference. His enemies....and they are his enemies... will say he's spending too much and is not listening to the people.Short memories for folks and ran up the deficit like never in America's history a little over a year ago

.......They'll say he has no plan.....but not present an alternative.....will complain , vent, whine, piss and moan how bad things are and give one simple answer TAX CUTS TAX CUTS TAX CUTS...Americans know how to spend their money they'll say...the past 3 decades have shown..no...they really don't.....If Americans are really so stupid as to give power back to the very people who dragged their name, lifestyle, and spirit down into the shitter...then they get what they deserve.Cheers.

did you expect anything any different? We are talking about one of the most corrupt political systems in the world.

He's too over exposed for any speech, even the SOTU to make much difference.

watched it. Wasn't impressed. I've watched many of these, Republican and Democrat and it seemed that past ones had more gravitas and emotional effect than this one. Not really sure why.

It was a good speech, combative at times but I think delivered with a certain temper to ask Republicans to kindly get off their asses and not simply block any action. Biden kind of reminded me of a bobble head for the first few minutes or so but he managed to settle down. Anyone else notice who wasn't there?

If he had shown passion and flair he'd be too hollywood....if he'd been too analytical he'd be seen as not connecting with the common man(Who by the way is pretty stupid about life in general, and you'd think after 8 years of connecting with one you'd think the people would want someone a little smarter then they are)......if he was too aggressive he'd be seen as unstable and reckless......too happy and he'd be naive about reality...and on and on.

He put his opponents on notice.....you stop everything ..say no to everything.....the general public..not meaning the rabid edges on either side...... is going to know who to hold accountable. On a lighter note those old folks must wake up with sore legs in the morning. That up and down every 2 minutes must a hell of a quad workout

Who is the GOP response guy (I know he is new governor, but I don't know much about him at all) ? I remember last year Bobby Jindal did the GOP response and dropped his ratings freefall style. I heard nobody wanted to do the GOP response after President speech, and I do not blame anyone for not wanted to be compared....

I agree with Mac. Before special interests were in complete control, Roosevelt brought in more sweeping changes in similar circumstances with less members in both Houses. The US Senate is so corrupt that no change is even possible unless it protects and enriches the Senators themselves. It's really amazing that Americans put up with it.

Additional note: President Obama's speech, I'll give him "A" for amazing and it was clear, strong, easy to follow, and right to the point! Both side of party have to admit, this man is born public speaker!

So what would you suggest we do? The Supreme Court just made it easier still to have monied interests, especially corporations, to fund election campaigns.

Yeah, that really sucks. Over the last few years the Canadian government managed to squeeze corporate donations out altogether but the trade off was that they could run parallel campaigns. It manages to keep them in control but the directness is gone and that is the offensive part.

You have to think that any government that gets entirely away from the will of the people will fail. I don't believe they are quite there yet but give them time. Although America was born of revolution from tyranny, that is probably not possible in the way we think of it. Revolution in a modern sense seems to be a simple breakdown of order. Look at the history of the how the Soviet Union fell apart. There are many parallels.

So what would you suggest we do? The Supreme Court just made it easier still to have monied interests, especially corporations, to fund election campaigns.

It was a very good speech and delivered a nicely measured bitch slap to the obstructionist GOPers [the Party of NO].
He told them the get off their dead arses and fix the country instead of supporting the corrupt status quo and their special interests....

The GOP response to Obama's agenda is always to lower taxes, lower taxes, lower taxes. Funny that; I don't seem to recall thier being all that troubled when Dubya and his GOP fellows in Congress ran deficit after deficit during one the greatest credit booms in history. Even Canada ran surpluses during that time, so why couldn't the allegedly small government Republicans not have done the same? Instead, they ran off balance sheet wars, passed a prescription drug benefit that was totally not funded, and even dropped taxes. Now when Obama gets in, the GOP tries to paint him as a typical spendthrift Dem. just for essentially doing what they did in the last 8 years. I agree with Obama...fuck the opposition, full steam ahead with his agenda.

This is the attitude that has lost his party 3 elections in the past 3 months..... and is a prescription for a blood bath in November.

When The New York Times a member of the Obama cheerleading squad writes: it was a “performance, more defiant than contrite, more conversational than soaring. He . . . threatened vetoes, blamed his predecessor and poked fun at lawmakers. The agenda was largely the same, dressed up in fresh packaging, as he offered point-by-point rebuttals to the litany of critiques he hears with increasing frequency. He acknowledged only a failure to explain his policies without retreating an inch on the policies themselves.”

When your best friend writes that . . . .

Better a friend that offers an honest opinion than one that simply fawns over him. Fox News and the GOP come to mind.
