I have no sympathy for those fuckers. Throw the book at 'em. That could my daughter or it could your daughter just trying to make some cash to get through high school and into university and instead she gets preyed upon by some loser whose making a career out of working at McDonalds. Someone should beat his ass...

This happens in all types of companies, this one gets attention because Starbucks is a "sexier" story for the media.
It's too bad she didn't report this earlier, no one should have to deal with repeated advances from anybody. It's still totally the guy's fault and I'm glad he was nailed.

Usually greasers with pray upon a young woman who's financially vulnerable. When they have no fear of reprisal they get bold and domineering. A single mother I used to work with told me about a service manager who had become too aggressive with her daughter. The daughter was blossoming into someone with matinee idol looks and had become a target of his lascivious intentions.

A week later the mother goes to her daughter's restaurant and confronts the manager-greaser. While this is happening one of her co-workers (He wasn't well liked) let's me in through the employee entrance. While the greaser is pre-occupied with oozing his machismo toward the mother, he doesn't notice me coming up behind him.

I hum Dueling Banjos into his ear.

A few months ago, I was having breakfast at a local diner. When I went to pay, I was told that my breakfast had been paid for. When I got outside the daughter (whom I had not seen in over a decade) drove up beside me. I shook her hand and thanked her for the breakfast - then she drove off in her BMW.

It may happen in all types of companies but this is a company that mostly employs young girls who are especially vulnerable. Trying to compare a 30 year old woman with a 16 year old girl is asinine.

So the moral of the story is that you stopped the big bully from taking her delicious cookies and she went to market them elsewhere for fair market value.

I didn't say a 16 year old is comparable to a 30 year old, but sexual harrassment is uncomfortable to anyone no matter what age or gender they are.
You're asinine for suggesting otherwise.

I agree.... If a 30 yr old working there, its usually because she needs to pay her rent. Losing that job would more than upset her life a little bit.

I don't know how responsible Starbucks is for the actions of this employee. I do think their tactic of attacking the employee's sexual history is very low brow. I'm surprised the judge allowed it. Shows me judges are fucking idiots too.

Cheers!

"After claiming he did not know the barista was 16 years-old, Horton pleaded guilty to a felony charge of illegal sex with a minor and served four months in prison"

This fucker is a sick bastard even if she was not illegal. This is what they call Supervisor? He should get more time in jail.
The only way a 4 month sentence works for this scumbag is if he is sentenced to hang at the end of it....

ahhh and to think a few days ago a 40 year old woman was charged with having sex with a boy who at maxiimum could be 13 and a lot of you were hooting and hollering calling it awesome, now its a 30 year old man having sex with a 16 year old gal, and suddenly the crowds with the pitch forks and torches emerges. Can you say hypocrites boys and girls, I know you can!!!

Any time a person in authority uses that authority to coerce people into something it is wrong, regardless of gender. There is a more visceral reaction when the victim is female, but it is still wrong when it happens. When the person is underage or vulnerable it is even more reprehensible.
The teacher scenario generates a different reaction because we are 99.9% males here and 99.9% of us had a fantasy about a hot teacher (unless we didn't have a hot teacher). But it is still wrong if there is coercion.

In the Starbucks case, the dude was 24, so 24-16 = 8. How about a 30 year old man with a 22 year old woman? A 50 year old man with a 20 year old wife? So no, the age difference in THIS case is not terribly offensive, imo.

Now, the age of consent in California is 18. So technically, he broke the law and he did the time.

And I agree that sexual harassment is reprehensible, especially in these cases involving young workers, but the offenders here are also relatively young (early 20s). So I would think that some of this is due to immaturity, and could some of this simply be younger girls being around slightly older guys, and maybe there was some dating at first that went wrong?

I also find it odd that Starbucks is defending themselves by going after the girl in THIS case.

Personally I don't believe minors should work at all, unless it is in a family business under the direct supervision and guidance of a family member. I think that is an overdue evolution in advanced, developed countries.

a 14 year old with a part time job is not a bad thing. It teaches responsibility and lets them get a taste of a little bit of money. We already protect our kids too much as it is, we're turing them into pussies. Now I'm not excusing the actions of Timmy but this story strikes me as a bit odd. Especially since this appears to have been an on going thing and most 14 year olds are a lot more sophisticated than this one lets on. And no, I don't support sex with 14 year olds, I like mine much older, I just think that most 14 yr olds know better than that.

Did anyone watch the video embedded? I did and I had to watch a Dunkin Dounts coffee ad before the feature. Gotta love technology and advertising.

I posted a story on here awhile ago about a certain franchise in my home province that had a gentleman that owned 4 such stores and he practiced some of the very same actions with his employees.....Tim Horton did make me laugh. One of my ex's was a said employee or i would not have taken it for truth. In small towns with few jobs I'd bet this goes on more then it's talked about.
