Women may become valued now and not aborted at birth but I doubt it.

It's hard to image 400 million births have been averted since the rules came into effect, that's more than 10 times Canada's population.

The female infanticide is a primarily rural, uneducated, peasant phenomena that is fiercely opposed by the Chinese government, but old practices die hard.

Fortunately they appear to die with education--urban Chinese appear to prefer female children as they are perceived as staying closer to the family (much as in the West).

Note that India has a worse problem than China: The greater levels of poverty and lower levels of education in India have resulted in a ratio of 1.12 males per female, versus the ratio of 1.11 in China. The worst in the world is Armenia at 1.15.

There are also a host of European countries on this black list: Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, all with ratios of around 1.07 or so. Whoops but Western democracies aren't supposed to suffer from female infanticide.... uh oh, better sweep that one under the rug.

Dude, they have a BILLION people! Someone needs to work harder on population control. You can't compare the birth rate to other western countries because the sheer mass of numbers in china and india skew it all.

Yeah what he said. Hopefully this is a solution to overpopulation not a problem. I have read that the potential demographic impact of this trend will be phenominal. We live in interesting times.

I think that this is a self-correcting problem, the more people have sons, the worse it becomes to be one of those dudes. Supply and demand should make it better for women as the ratios change. Hopefully.

It will enable better off women, Educated or good looking to be able to be more picky and have choices as to her husband. Poor women will still be relatively the same. Though now if her husband turns out to be an a hole she won't have to be scared of devorce. Also having one child provided you more time to maybe get an education or a job so you don't have to be dependant on someone else. I think a sex and the city lifestyle will grow. A middle aged single women who have more freedom then any women in the history of China.

As for the men 24 M single men will cause a demend in prostitutes and drugs. Some one is going to cater to them I'm sure. It will start a weeding out process in think. If you're retarded youbwont get married. If you have a deformity you won't yet married. If you're abusive you'll get devorced.

of course some will still make bad choices. My point is that as a whole women will have more options to them unlike any women before them in their history. Chinese women had no choices before. An unmarried 30 yr old women was considered undesireable. A divorced woman was considered dispicable. Not only were men abusive but sometimes his family (women tend to join the mans family) were abusive. Some treated like slaves in the home. Men would fuck arround and go home and beat their wives.

Will this behaviour stop prob not because some will still do this. But now women have some choices an chance for better life. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. As a whole women have more power now the they ever have.

Not including the Ladies in uniform....

Still no match to US Armed Force but could not tell for sure 10 years from now...assuming the bubble economy does not burst as expected and the regime remains intact.
