In any case, to be careful, I'd avoid places (apts/houses/hotels) where multiple women work for awhile. All LE needs is a tip to stage a raid, regardless as to whether or not there is veracity to the information on which the tip is based.

I thought LE in Canada was long done going after brothels for the most part (opting instead to go after street-level stuff), but I guess not?

Frightening stuff.

It is kind of unnerving, but as Hammer said, this is kind of a situation where a guy was breaking *all kinds* of laws, and the cops clearly couldn't stay away.

The cops are long done with busting "brothels", but this is clearly more than just that. If all three women had been over 20, if one of them hadn't been listed as missing (!), and if there weren't any drugs on hand, they'd still be there working. (I'm guessing the 15 year old was a runaway ... )

while hammer is right, you cannot mix any of those issues, you still have to understand that busting an incall these days(any incall) is a result of a citizen complaint .
our "tolerant" society says that we're ok with it as long as it doesn't bother or threaten anyone. but a citizen complains, LE has to act.
so, if you do business at a location that has a little ol lady who looks out her peephole and counts the number of men going into a specific appt and decides to call the police...guess what?

Here's an example: I used to frequent a certain oriental place in t.o...got to know the papasan.
one day, the papasan told me of an encounter he had with a neighbour. The man told papsan what he had seen and what he thought/knew was going on. he said that if he didn't receive certain compensation, he would go to the police.
in this case, the man was given a free ride and some cash and then papasan moved out of that building.

thats why i avoid basement appts & houses.
And whi i never repeat with anyone who has an appt that has 2 doors facing each other in the hallway...
hey, thats just me.

I have to disagree here Keyra. According to this article it us illegal to run a bawdy house for the purposes if prositution. It clearly says it's part of an ongoing investagtion.

Don't kid yourself. They can if they want bust any hen house they want. Single or mutliple occupied

The key word here is underage, which will always in LE. and most likely hotel staff made the original compliant.

I think what xtc4u and I were trying to say is that whether or not the tips police receive are true or not, they are obligated to follow up on them.

This is good in cases where some sick d-bag is really pimping a 15 year old child, but beyond that, it unfortunate for honest, consenting escorts of legal age who violate nothing more than the archaic Bawdy House portion of the Criminal Code...

In theory, a mere complaint about 'prostitution activities' from a jealous competitor or ex-boyfriend obligates police to intervene.

It was likely the hotel that filed the complaint with the police. Hotel staff are regularly given missing/wanted persons reports and they have a system to establish if unusual behaviour is going on in the room. No different than how cops look for behaviour in people.

Setting up a sex store in a higher end hotel is just plain stupid.

Okay, So Here's A Question ...

So I've been reading all the posts (and commenting a little) both in this thread and the other one called "KW bust", and what I've learned is that we all agree on one thing: Police intervention on SPs working discreetly out of sight doing incalls is *strictly* due to citizen complaints, never because they decide they're going to "do something about prostitution because it's evil/wrong/immoral/etc.".

All this talk of police busting SPs has understandably gotten me just a little nervous about LE sticking their nose in. So I've got a question for all the experts here: What if there's a "complaint" or report placed with the local police by an anonymous citizen. Let's say it's not the nosy little old lady counting traffic going in and out of a house, but rather (as has been mentioned) a jealous competitor or a disgruntled ex-boyfriend. For the record, I have neither, lol. ;)

But what if someone like that were to call the local police department and say, "So-and-so is working as an incall prostitute out of her address at such-and-such a house/apartment." And let's say that this is the *ONLY* phone call they get, not a deluge of people on the block complaining "there goes the neighbourhood". Just that one jealous other SP or angry ex-bf.

What happens next? Do the boys in blue uniforms show up at the address and question all the tenants, the landlord, and the woman in question? Or would they set up an undercover "sting" where they try to find contact info for her and then send her an e-mail and try to set up an incall appointment ... and when the undercover cop arrives he then arrests the SP? Or might they disregard that one phone call if they were told or if they felt that the man/woman making the call wasn't credible? I just don't know ...

I just want to know how this works, because as XTC said in the other thread, let's hope this doesn't trigger an orgy of incall/Bawdy busts (pun intended). And if there's any danger of that, the girls here should maybe "get educated" on how LE might work if it were to come to that.

I want to make one thing clear: I am not trying to start a panic, and I do not believe that there will be an "incall rampage" by the cops. But I still don't think it would hurt if we established how LE would conduct itself if they received one single complaint on an indy working out of her home. (Obviously, I have a vested interest, lol.)

So would anyone like to put in their knowledge on this question? It would be much appreciated ... ;-)

I don't think one call would be sufficient enough to start an investigation by LE. They would ask how the caller knows the person was a prostitute and not someone doing accounting for clients for example. It's not against the law to have visitors. LE don't have enough manpower to investigate a single complaint. IMHO
