I think Amanda wrote some articles saying the West is bad and the Iranian mullahs are good
. Wonder how much help she got from the murderous Islamic Iranian mulluhs in regaining her freedom? Maybe none?I heard her on the radio tonight claiming she was tortured and some sort of ransom was paid and how terrified she was...so why in the world was she there anyway?
Heard she was there to write some articles praising the murderous Islamic Iranian mullahs and criticizing the bad West. Who paid the ransom? Was it the mullahs or those bad people in the West?
I heard she endured deletirious conditions, and supposedly gave birth to a child while in captivity. Is there any truth to this?
Media reports (CTV) said that a ransom of $700,000 was paid to her kidnappers. Kidnapping pays, torture pays, etc. Now every Canadian will be a target of kidnappers.
Shame on the Canadian government for doing nothing on this one! The family paid for this one out of their own pockets! As a Canadian citizen, one would hope that the government has your back after all those taxes one pays...but are federal government did nothing..an embarrassment really..she was probably raped as well, but those details are probably kept out of the media.
How on earth is it the government's fault? A private citizen goes to the most dangerous country on earth, gets kidnapped, and the government is supposed to pay for her to get free? The only embarrassment is that there are Canadians who think the government should take care of them when they do stupid things anywhere on the planet.
ps. how do you know, by the way, that the Canadian government didn't pay part of this ransom? Or all of it? The families weren't rich, that's a known fact, so where did they come up with $700K? Quite possibly, from the Canadian taxpayer.

Governments should not pay ransom to kidnappers. It encourages more instances and more suffering of future victims who would never have been kidnapped if the government response had been to send in a helicopter gunship.
Kidnapping is big business down in Mexico City - very lucrative becuase the police do little to stop it and familes pay it to get loved ones back. Toronto is not like Mexico City in this regard because here the police track down kidnappers and send them to jail so the risks far outweigh the rewards and thus it is not a popular crime here.
This was discussed in another thread. If Canada starts paying ransom for every Canadian kidnapped, then this will only encourage the kidnapping of Canadians. Besides, we are too busy worrying about Afghan detainees (aka Taliban) to be concerned with folks like Amanda and Maziar Bahari. Since she wrote so nicely of Iran, I'm surprised the mullahs didn't kick in some money.
