I just got an e-mail notice from Bell asking me why I was delaying my registration for e-billing. Wanting to make sure this was legit
I contacted Bell and they said that it was legit and the inquiry was based on my having to be notified of this as I had just recently upgraded my system.

If I choose not to utilize the e-bill service, I will be charged $2 every month for the paper bill. The reps explanation was, ........... ready for it, everybody is doing it now. You can always print off a copy. Yes, but it's COPY not the original.

How many of you use the internet to pay your bills and without giving away secrets, why?

Check your bills for that $2 charge and now you know the story.

It looks like another letter to the CRTC time.

I pay all my bills over the internet, it's where we're going and the sooner we adapt, the better, we won't win this one, so join the ever growing crowd.

It makes sense, we save trees, money, storage, time, etc... I don't even print invoices any longer, I store them electronically for backup if CRA ever did an audit, it's all their.

The number of trees we save is nothing compared the the trees burned down in Brazil and SE Asia. It helps, but I hope you keep a back up off site of all your bills and transaction. We all have stories of someone who's had a catastrophic computer failure.

It's the 'everyone is doing it' comment as everyone is not, that really pisses me off. how long have people been touting the paperless society 10/15 years, and how are we doing. Do you have less paper coming to your sitting on your desk/ It's their attempt at negative billing that gets my goat. Excuse me your supposed to tell us by unchecking the box that you don't want to participate. if everyone is doing it why are you going to 'force' me or at least tick me off by charging me $2?

After my vent I did say I knew it wasn't her decision to do this but she was on the front desk and so ........

Of course I keep an offsite storage, that's simple.

This is like the ATM when firist introduced about 30 years ago, no one wanted to do it, but slowly, decades later, a large number in society live by them. It will take years as well, but paper will slowly be used less in many aspects, it will continue into the next generation as well, but paper will die.

You are one of the smart ones as there are many who don't.

I still like the feel and smell when I get the chance to read or just examine books that are over 100 years old and more. Often it's what written in the margins that really speak out. I AM glad to see the digital library project in Europe. This will be as important as the Gothenburg press for enabling people to access information or just for the pleasure of seeing treasured items. 90% of collections in museums never see the light of day as there is no space to show it on the floors. If you ever get a chance to see the back rooms at a museum take it and be ready to be amazed.

I know it's coming but it just sucks the way they're doing it. They hate it when someone actually reads their bills/mail and notices these moves.

I am still a "touch and feel" paper guy but "e" is the future so might as well get use to it sooner or later. Canada Post as we know it will probably be dead in 10 years. Tell your kids not to plan on a career as a letter carrier or sorter.

In perpetual hope
I think we are missing the point here, it is not about technology evolving, it's about those mother*** jumping in the wagon to make money off the "green" movement. Do you really think they care about the trees?
It saves them money in postage, print, manpower, etc.
And now the consumer has to put up with those expenses, while these a-holes reduce their costs, and who knows, maybe less people are needed now...
Exactly. Are we consumers going to see any benefits being passed down to us in improved service because they are saving money by e-billing? No.

Sure we are. I can see my Rogers bills anywhere I like. For example I've had to refer to them online while at work, instead of waiting to get home to check a billing error on the paper copy.

I like online billing with email reminders. I have my pay direct deposited and the pay stub emailed to me, too

I do e-billing actually I've also bundled my services for extra savings. As for actually paying my bills, I've set it up to automatically bill my credit card.

Like stated above, this is where the future is heading so best get ready now.

Most of my bills are set up to be paid onto my CC so that not only do I have to make one payment a month instead of several, but I also get the cash back bonus as well.

I switch over to paperless as each of my bill-issuers indicate they're going to start charging me to send me a paper bill.

For the bills that don't go on the CC (Hamilton Hydro is old-fashioned that way <grin>) I pay online via my bank now. More convenient than mailing a check as I can take the bill when it comes in and set it up with the bank that it gets paid the day before it's due. No more late payments because I forgot that the deadline was coming up.
