'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.

I can't even talk the way these people talk:

Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth
In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living.

People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids.

$500 sneakers for what?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2?

Where were you when he was 12?

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol?

And where is the father? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .....

I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid.

I was born here, and so were my parents and grandparents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! !

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ......... and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.

We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job.

Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard..

We cannot blame the white people any longer.'
Dr.. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed..D.

Please tell me that you are just a garden variety racist.

Because the alternative is that you really are that fucking stupid that you actually think Bill Cosby said this crap.

How fucking dumb.

I don't even have to go into Snopes (you should before you post such shit though) to know Cosby no more said this than gave a speech at the Swearing In Ceremony of the newest Grand Wizard for the Ku Klux Klan.

Fucking stupid.

One last parting shot by yours truly.

I've never been a big believer in the welfare state, but I am a big believer in Education. I feel that spending money on education - better facilities, better resources, and yes, better teachers is the ONLY way to help the disadvantaged kids in our society grow up to to avoid the scenarios described in the post of the OP.

Unfortunately, it isn't really a level playing field out there.

Jtk,

Maybe stick to fucking green women eh?

Not only are these Mr. Cosby's sentiments, they appear to be his actual words too.

Moreover...there is nothing racist in what he says. He is not saying that the behaviour he describes is determined by race.

Mon Capitaine (That's you Kirk), I think you're actually wrong in fact. I'm pretty sure Cosby did say words to this effect about 5 years ago.

Nothing racist here per se.

And on that note, since when has it become proper English to say "I seen them a week ago."

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? Isn't it "I SAW them a week ago." I hear the improper use of seen far too often these days. Where the heck did that drivel come from? MTV?

Anyways....

I disagree with Cosby on the speech point. I understand what people who speak like that are trying to say. Not only is it clear, it's often very creative and adds to our language. Stuck up types have been forever saying "ain't" isn't correct (for example). Fact is, language is a living thing that changes. What's considered incorrect today is tomorrow's Queen's english.

In my humble opinion, as a black man, I am ashamed and do not wish to be associated with the caricatures of blacks shown in the American media. NOT AT ALL. Thug life is no life at all (after all how many of them live past 35?).

I know, as we all do that the thug life is not representative of all black people, but I severely dislike the image all the same. Thank god there's Obama to show folks (as well as Condi Rice and Colin Powell) that not all blacks are like Tupac and his band of idiots.

I also know from personal experience that what Cosby is talking about is a real problem. When I go and visit a white friend in the U.S. and meet his white American friends and they say to me "Wow, you're quite different, you don't speak Black," methinks there is something seriously wrong with the manner black people speak down there.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but there is at least SOME evidence of a problem and not a trivial problem in my view.

Well, enough said on this topic... If you want to hear more about it, listen to some of Chris Rock's stand-up comedy on the situation. Certain things, only comedians can say, while the rest of us will get roasted (as Cosby was) for saying the same thing.

I think Cosby's central point is that no where near enough has been said on this topic.

Look, he is not saying black people shouldn't be different. One of those Youtube videos show him asking the crowd if they remember speaking a certain way when they were out on the corner, and then leaving that speech behind when they were in a different environment, like home, school or work.

Everyone does that, not just black people. The problem today, is that some black kids appear to think that the rap gangsta culture completely defines them, and that it's cool to be a criminal. Being anti-establishment is one thing, being anti-education is another.

Wow....If you really think some lying cowards like Condeliza Rice and Colin Powell are really doing something good for black people, you really are lost.

Tupac and his band of idoits??.....well I'm guessing you're another person that was too caught up in how he looked instead of what he was saying. He was the son of black panthers and knew the struggle facing him.

Now if you really have no problem with your white friends saying "you dont talk black" and things along those lines, you're feeding the problem. As innocent as the statement seems, understand that it is a racist statement none the less, and you are agreeing with.

When you stop pretending to be what you're not and start realizing the truth soon you'll realize that no matter how far you excel and no matter what you achieve you'll always be just another n***a in their eyes. Just ask the well respected Harvard Professor arrested in his own home....seems he wasn't like tupac and his band of idoits, but he was arrested and treated the same way they were.

Hopefully you can receive that same treatment....maybe you'll learn a thing or two about the world we live in.

Between a rock and a hard place
The English language has been modified by butchery throughout the ages. Thank goodness for that. I don't see myself peppering my jargon with "Thee" and "Thou" very comfortably. Most often when a person of importance, such as royalty or aristocracy makes an eggregious error, an equally important educational authority on language justifies it and modifies the rules so that their way is now accepted as correct. Eventually we will have a Cdn PM or POTUS who uses "ain't".
Vernacular, slang, technology, and ebonics are constantly modifying the way we speak. Improper contractions, and grammatical ommissions are accepted as they are adopted for efficiency, and to avoid social isolation. If you ask the people who employ these words, I am sure they can explain it better. (ie "I got no time to use the Kings English, and 'sides, aint noone cares yo").

As an sp I have had quite a variety of men visit me....I have noticed that the way they speak has nothing at all to do with the type of person they are. Black, White, Hispanic, Asian/Oriental etc. I have had all races speak in slang to the point where I can barely understand them and yet they are the sweetest and most respectful men and a joy to entertain. Not all of course, but certainly a good portion. On the other hand I have had some very 'proper english speaking' assholes.....language just like position and wealth does not make the man. It is merely their way of expressing themselves. A 'good' person can be recognized regardless of their way of speaking.

i would guess that most guys are very sweet when they're looking to get laid. This is probably not the best time to assess their character.
