EDITED: I was wrong, the prices for gas on the weekend are going for $2.19 a litre in Toronto.

Have a fun ride in your SUV's and enjoy!! :p

Did you guys know gas prices are at this moment (Wednesday, 10:30pm, Sept-21) a whopping $1.75 and $1.80 in Chatham, Windsor and Essex, Ontario? Some companies were filling-up their fleets in panic this afternoon southwest of Toronto, there were LONG lines at the pumps. Toronto will have these prices by tomorrow night, possibly up to $1.93 a litre on the weekend when hurricane Rita bashes the oil rigs in the Gulf Coast.

It's going to be $1.93 a litre in Toronto on the weekend, that means that my neighbor's Chevy pick-up truck which takes 127 litres to fill will cost..... a whopping $247.06 to fill..... he can go 3 times back and forth from Toronto to Mississauga and will need another $247.06 fill-up...

that's great! That's what we get for being little pussies who never boycott the blood-sucking oil companies.

Can you say "recession"?

It means people will have a lot less money for purchasing goods, eating out and pooning.
Think it will be a shitty Christmas for a lot of people.

You said it! Wait until the trickle affect happens and transportation costs go up on everything. Increased gas prices hit you over and over again. Groceries cost more, clothes, lumber, etc. etc. They all get shipped from somewhere and the carriers can't pick up the extra costs; their costs will be passed on to the consumer. Watch out; doesn't look good.

kommander is referring to posts on other boards claiming gas is at 1.97 already. it's 0.97 - easy to check, but some of these nuts enjoy the attention they get when they scream 1.97!!!!

Think it could trigger hyper-inflation?.. could be time to buy some gold

Will be interesting to see how high our resource based dollar will go!!.. but if it goes any higher, it will mean a loss of jobs here as it is no longer cost effective to produce some goods here as our dollar is no longer the Canadian Peso

They are saying it is very likely Americans will be paying $5.00 / gallon!!!

I just filled up yesterday at $2.89/gal. I'm not looking forward to next week's visit to the gas station.

You said it. But this inflation won't be limited to consumer goods. Everything from housing to bank fees will rise sharply. And perish forbid -- SP rates

As far as inflation goes gas has been sheltered from inflation for a long time. There was a time when a large pack of cigarettes and a Canadian gallon of gas were the same price. Smokes have been 7.00 a pack for a few years. Gas is just catching up.

the sky is falling. C'mon now be realistic. In real terms oil has been at its highest level for a number of months now and we see no signs of recession whatsoever. Some economists are even arguing that its the high price of oil which is keeping downward pressure on the 10 year bond yields and thus on short term interest rates.

High Gas

Just got home from work. On the news they were broadcasting that gas was going for over $1.70 / litre at a station in Chatham. All reports are that it is a direct result of the latest hurricane, which of course still hasn't reached land.
Nice to see the gas companies have the foresight of when natural disasters will strike!

225.0 in stratford.. Apparently most stations will be over two bucks a litre by tomorrow. Interesting since Rita hasn't actually hit anything yet..

pretty soon it's going to be cheaper to just rent an appartment close to work and walk rather than driving 20 minutes a day.. *sigh*

Sometimes I just don't understand where you folk's heads are at. The gas price is a temporary result of U.S. refining capacity shrinking in the wake of Rita. Once the refinery damage is repaired gas will drop back to $0.93 which is the correct reflection of the crude oil pricing. Should be about 6 or 7 weeks.

Jeez, there is a real "sky is falling" mentallity here some days.
Yeah but the thing is that these f*ckers will NOT drop the price once the refineries are going and Rita is a thing of the past. For example, they will jack-up prices to $1.97 a litre..... then "lower it" and keep it at $1.70 and we will be happy that this is "cheap" and gas-up wherever we see it's $1.70.

Short term interest rates are set by the various banks based on the rate set by the Bank of Canada, the US Federal Reserve, etc...

It is quite possible there will be an inverted yield curve in the US very soon where long rates are lower than the short rates.
The spread is extremely small already.
