Funny you say that, cause I was sort of thinking the same thing. Don't want good efforts to go to waste by losing 2-1 against guys like Sale and Kershaw.
I vaguely remember the Yanks starting Andy Petitte against Cliff Lee instead of A.J. Burnett. Petitte lost and Burnett also lost the next day. Would have been better to "waste" Burnett against Lee and save Petitte for the next day.

Gibbons playing Storen as the set-up man looked fine at the start of the season but 32 games in he should have realised he's not the right guy for that role. He has also been guilty of using Cecil too much. His BP management is not proving to be good.

These kind of losses are the most sickening. After such a great game by Estrada.

easy to blame Storen.........and deserved, ....but I wondered about the message Gibbons was sending when he had Osuna warming up before Storen threw a pitch...such a show of non confidence. Now I agree that Osuna should have got up when Storen again walked the first batter. I then would have got Osuna up....but I would then have given Storen one more batter, he was hired to be the 8th inning guy...give him one more chance.

Similarly Chavez should have been given the chance to pitch out of trouble in the ninth..he has been pretty good

BUT the real reason we lost was being held to one hit by a guy named Ross Stripling!!!! That is a couple times lately we have lost to fifth starters at home...inexcusable.

Gotta agree with you there. He's thinking let these guys work themselves out of their funk in these early season games. But a win in April/May is just as good as the ones in Sept. It's clearly evident that Cecil and Storen don't have it right now and bringing them into high leverage situations is not helping anyone. Gotta go with the hot hand in the bullpen, which is Floyd and Chavez and maybe even Biagini.

I actually like how decisive Gibbons is with the lineup. When Pillar started cold, he quickly replaced him with Saudners, and they rode him for a while. Then when Pillar got hot, now he is batting lead off. I also like that he put Saunder ahead of Tulo last coupla games since the latter was an automatic out and rally killer. Sends a message to our highest paid $20mil player to work out of his funk.

Now if he could be as decisive with the bullpen.

The Blue Jays, I think will be alright. They could win the division again. They should be in the hunt.

What the Blue Jays have, is the best starting rotation in the division. It does not seem that way, because Dickey is struggling. Otherwise, this is a good staff. That is funny, because guys like Estrada and Happ, not sure what their up side is. They just keep getting better at their job. When those two pitched for Milwaukee and Houston, you wondered how long will they still be in the league. Now look at them. They don't give up 5 hits half the time.

Remember the Mets from last year. To be a contender, you need the starting pitching. The Blue Jays have that.

The problem right now is the bottom half of the line up is in a season long slump, which puts pressure on the bull pen, because not enough runs are scored by the team in these offensively friend ball parks of the AL East.

Freddy Freeman of Atlanta was hitting about .150 but now is getting closer to hitting .300, and that has only been a couple of weeks. So Tulowiski and Martin can snap out of it.

The bull pen has experienced arms who seem to be all slumping at the same time. Just give someone else a chance, but it is still a team game.

Also, the Blue Jays, have played the teams in first place most of the time so far. I'm not convinced that the Chicago White Sox, Baltimore, Boston, are better teams than Toronto, but they were hot and beat the Blue Jays.

The offense will pick up sooner or later. The bull pen will improve. The starters will continue to do good. When that happens, we will see Toronto contending for the division.

And who else is he supposed to put in???

Do you not realize the whole bullpen outside osuna sucks? The only other person seems to be pitching well is ciagini or whatever that guys name is

Limited choices but right now Floyd and Chavez (as mentioned by Ultistar) seem far better options.

It might be unrealistic to expect the starters to continue to perform at their current level indefinitely. They have pitched well enough that if the rest of the team only played to their historical norms the team would be comfortably above .500.

But the offense (did last season's praised Brooke Jacoby become incompetent in the off-season) and most horrifically, the bullpen are why we are below .500 but amazingly only 2.5 out of first. Who can anticipate Cecil going from allowing no runs in about 35 innings to being a batting practice pitcher. One has to expect him to regain some form. Storen looks like a horrible move by big head Shapeero. With our struggling offense who wouldn't want Ben Revere batting leadoff? (In all honesty, where would Saunders have fit in? In a non-aborted trade?)

I am content hoping that they can stay in the hunt and play meaningful games in September. Those are the most intense and enjoyable games for fans. I just hope the players play to their talent levels which would give them a solid chance of making the playoffs (assuming Big Head doesn't start dismantling them at the trade deadline).

Anyways, things haven't changed much in terms of potential success since the beginning of the season.

I still think Storen for Revere was the right trade at the time, since we need relievers and we have a surplus of outfielders. Saunders and Carrera have started strong. And since this is Storen's UFA year, he should be motivated to get his shit together quick. Not sure we have any good trade assets to pick up better relievers so I think we're stuck with the hand we're dealt and hope that they start pitching like major leaguers.

Tulo and Martin suck! Bases loaded 1 out in the 1st and Tulo and Martin can't produce a run. $37mil between the two of them.
Yeah the bullpen has been frustrating but these two guys have the shoulder most of the blame.

Edit: Martin strands another bases loaded. 6 men LOB tonight! Gawd awful...

This was absolutely the right move. It's the k.c model every is trying to do. You have to figure, they had there closer in osuna, there super lfty/lfty killer in ceicel, and one of the best relievers in the league in Drew Storen. If any of our pitchers had a quality start into the 7th, should have been difficult to beat, but when they don't do what they were supposed to do, it looks bad.

In the last 8 years, Martin has only batted over 250 once. and most years was under 240. This is what Russell Martin is.

Martin's and Tulo's hitting will come around. We're back to .500 now, if we can sort out the pen we'll be okay

Martin has an incredible track record as a winner. Made 9 playoffs in 10 years across four teams: Dodgers, Yanks, Pirates (after 30 years), and of course the Jays after 22 years. Did it with great defence, good pitch calling/framing, and "pretty good hitting for a catcher". Unfortunately, he may be on the start of the decline which comes earlier for catchers.
He used to take more walks and a strikeout less but he just looks lost this year.

I wonder if Martin might be having some personal problems. Maybe he got dumped by his woman or sumthin. He seems a little off mentally
