Next up: GLOW.

The lovely Alison Brie as a female wrestler. She was very charming in Community but her role was limited. That won't be the case with GLOW.

Chiavo Guerrero coached the women. Lucky bastard!

Games of Thrones Season 7, I have to put up with Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey's bad acting without the charms of Rose Leslie nor Faye Marsay to brighten matters. I love that Waif.

FX is killing HBO, they have the advantage of not taking on an extra subscription to access their shows. FX has requested a second season of Taboo - they may be waiting a long time. Sony paid Tom Hardy boatloads of money to save their Spiderman franchise. They fucked up with three mediocre films. Again he's being asked to rehabilitate a superhero nemesis. Topher Grace played Venom - the less said about that the better.

If Steven Knight agrees to write S2, then Hardy will return. But he's busy as well, he's writing the sequels to WW Z and the Lisabeth Salander franchises. And then there's Peaky Blinders.

Finished S3 of Fargo. I liked it. Ewan McGregor was great after I got over his accent. I wasn't familiar with Mary Elizabeth Winstead before the season, and was really impressed. Carrie Coon was excellent, but I definitely preferred her performance on this season of The Leftovers.

Personally, comparing it only to shows that aired at the same time, Better Call Saul and The Leftovers left this season of Fargo in the dust. Definitely better than S2, and still very excellent television, but obviously just not as much my jam as others.

We may have different tastes. Can't think of a superhero film I made it all the way through since the first Spider-Man (which I was obliged to not walk out of because of my company), and although I've tried, I haven't made it past a pilot in the recent shows extended Marvel or DC universe(s). Obviously, not my jam.

I quite like FX and HBO. It would be hard for me to pick a favourite or definitely say which one is better. I can definitely see why you said what you said, and I look forward to checking out Taboo and some of the others you mentioned.

But GoT, Westworld, Veep, Silicon Valley, Vice Principals, High Maintenance, and Vice are current favourites on HBO.

On the other hand, I do kind of like The Americans. And FXX is pretty much FX, so add Sunny, Archer and You're the Worst to that list.

Comic books were my conduit to learning English faster when my family immigrated to Canada. I stopped reading them after awhile but my interest held for the movies. The best comic book films are, Logan, The Dark Knight and Spiderman 2. I sincerely hope that Sony doesn't woos out with Venom, Suicide Squad was like taking the vodka out of a Bloody Mary. If Hardy and Fleischer have creative control, they could take superhero films into the same direction that Alfred Hitchcock took suspense films with Psycho. Venom is nuts! In the comics, The Avengers go after him after he kills The Thing from the Fantastic 4.

You're The Worst has moments where I'm laughing hysterically and moments that had me uneasy. Like I was being reminded of all the things I did wrong.

Latest announcement.

I watched all 10 episodes over the weekend. Fantastic shows (esp. if you are a child of the 80's)

Lighthouse Boy, no spoilers per favore.

I didn't know who Doug Stanhope was until I heard the interview he did on The Howard Stern Show. It wasn't just about himself, his bi-polar girlfriend Bingo was also on the guest couch. After that I became a fan, his comedy may seem controversial but it's based on common sense. People are not used to such honesty so bluntly put. Thewlis's work in S3 is hard to top but Stanhope could pull it off.

In the end I would consider myself a Game of Thrones fan. There is real strategy to what is created, not empty calories like Star Wars or Transformers. I just wished the female characters had been developed better. Being a fantasy genre skeptic, that says a lot.

Thanks for the link. More revelations to upcoming season and more questions and answers.

The video store you mentioned in previous post is Very Video, it's near an MP I used to visit back in the day. I travel to London often on business so I can get all the British shows there on DVD, helps me get thru the boredom of flights.

Taped the final episode of Fargo will binge watch it soon to get caught up.

Thanks for the info VBB, is it still there?

Hollywood should stop turning classics into shit. Mark Wahlberg is a boring punk, can't believe I wasted two hours of my life on that pig slop.

Not sure if it's still there but googled it looks like it 1375 Yonge st.

Not a fan of Marky Mark but Benny Hill was and will always be a comic genius and icon. I used to remember back in the day on channel 4? They would have The Benny Hill show and Dave Allen back to back, my dad used to sit down in front of one of those old console tvs and watch it with fervour.

Even though they've gone nuts lately, there are some genres that the British do better than gli Americani.

Edgar Wright co-wrote and directed three brilliant films with Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, At World's End). I believe this is the first film independent of Pegg.

Logan is the best film I've seen in 2017, there's going to be a sequel to the film called The New Mutants.

Alice Braga, daughter of Sonja, is in the cast. She's not playing the adult Laura. Anya Taylor Joy (Split) and Game of Thrones Maisie Williams are also part of the cast.

He's doing a show in Buffalo tonight and I should go. If you've never listened to his podcasts, give em a shot. Nothing is off limits.

Is there anything Michael Sthulbarg cant do?

He's part of a quartet of actors that make up Arrival: with Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. Sthulbarg plays an NSA agent who sees conquest at every corner. Finally a film worthy of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Noah Hawley the showrunner for Fargo started a really terrific new series this year called Legion.

It's based on an X- Men Marvel comics character named David Haller who, as the series starts, is a patient in a psychiatric institution diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Part of the series centres around epistemology, ie the theory of knowledge. Ie how do you know that what you think is real is really real and how do you know that you're not just a brain in a jar in some parallel universe where scientists are stimulating you into thinking that certain things are real.

At the open of Legion the Doctors at the psychiatric institution housing Haller are royally brain fucking him and deceiving him; but, he's gradually figuring out how the game is being played out, much to the regret of institutional staff.

In the comics, David Haller/Legion is Charles Xavier's son. They've heavily hinted that Professor X may show up in future seasons. I did some reading on the character of Legion and I was convinced that the plot twist was going to be that all the events were taking place in his head and the assorted characters he had been interacting with were his alters since in the comics, Legion has dissociative personality disorder and each of his alters has a different power. That got shot down in the season finale but after doing some more reading on the show, they've said that everything may just be taking place in David's head.

I think that The Devil With the Yellow Eyes (aka *Spoiler Alert* Amahl Farouk/The Shadow King) was one of the most terrifying characters I've seen on a TV show. Legion also made Aubrey Plaza terrifying as well.

They're also playing it coy as to whether or not the series takes place in the same universe as the X-men movies.

Isn't political correctness wonderful.

Sofia Copolla remade The Beguiled and took all the controversy out of the film. Clint Eastwood starred in the original (1971) as a lecherous Union Army deserter who forces himself on the women of a Confederate boarding school. In the remake Colin Farrell plays the Eastwood role as just a wounded soldier with somewhat good intentions. Copolla got rid of the forced sex and the slaves, they didn't exist during The Civil War. Go for the white bread instead of the hot beef, makes sense. In the 71 version, Edwina is played by the late Elisabeth Hartman. She made her feature film debut in an inter-racial relationship with Sidney Portier called A Patch of Blue. And she rolls in the hay with vigiour with Eastwood, but that's verboten in Copolla's film.

To put it mildly, I hate films that clean up The Civil War! And this is from the director who made The Virgin Suicides - money trumps ideals.
