The probe into the trump campaigns possible collusion with Russia has been under way for a while now. With the discovery of Jared Kushner’s communications with the Russia this week, the need for answers have never been more dire. Robert Mueller, who was appointed special counsel, sent a letter last week.to the treasurer of the Trump campaign, requesting that all former staff produce all Russia related documents. Trump’s former staff can expect to be contacted in the days to come to ensure that they submit those documents properly.
The problem is that many staffers may have used auto-delete apps like Confide, Signal, and WhatsApp, making the information they shared on the platforms impossible to collect. The Trump staff has relied on these so much that they were reprimanded by press secretary Sean Spicer. Another difficulty they are facing is that the Trump campaign didn’t have a document retention plan. The question now is what data was lost?
Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, has also turned over documents to the Senate Intelligence Committee this week, though it remains unclear whether he has any involvement.Trump’s former political consultant, Michael Caputo, who worked in Russia prior to his work with the Trump campaign has also been asked to produce documents by the House Intelligence Committee. In a letter he sent to the GOP recently he said,
‘I knew nothing of this matter, I had no discussions of this matter when I served the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump, nor did I send or receive emails about this topic.’
He also said he would testify publicly if needed.
What we do know is that Donald Trump did fire FBI Director James Comey on May 9, after having asked James Comey to halt the investigation into Mike Flynn. We also know that in the following week Trump shared highly classified Israeli intelligence with the Russians in the same week. What was found out this week is that senior aide Jared Kushner also had communication with Russia. All very suspicious actions, the main motives for these actions has not been ascertained as of yet.
