There have been reports of serious side effects from getting the swine flu vaccination, as the clip shows.

I'm not saying that it happens frequently, but do you really want to risk something that serious happening to you or someone you know?

This is a new shot, so I'm sure they didn't do extensive studies and study long-term effects.

Just thought I'd let everyone know of the potential dangers, so you can make an informed choice.

Here is a clip showing how swine flu is spreading and affecting everyone:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2009/10/22/ldt.swine.vs.seasonal.flu.cnn

I guess it's damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

.
You might want to watch your own clip. It clearly states that this woman's condition was a 1 in a million side effect resulting from receiving a SEASONAL flu shot - not a swine flu shot.

The CNN story is more media hype. To date swine flu has proven to be 10% as deadly as the seasonal flu according to an article in the National Post yesterday.

Hysteria Indeed!

A bear, a lion and a pig meet.

Bear says: "if I roar in the forest, the entire forest is shivering with fear."

Lion says: "That's nothing... if I roar in the jungle, the entire jungle is afraid of me."

Pig says: "Big deal.... All I have to do is cough, and the entire planet shits itself."

Swine Flu= Media hype.... It is marketing for the medical industry and politicians to keep raping our wallets at record levels. :rolleyes:

Seems to me even with the risks outlined above, the greater risk by far is in not getting the flu shot, as the flu itself can and will kill a (small but significant) number of people.

That being said, I haven't yet decided that I will get the shot myself.

The seasonal flu vaccine is changed every year to match the anticipated predominant strains. I don't see the h1n1 vaccine as a whole lot different. All vaccines have RARE side effects, shit, life has side effects
The fact is this disease transmits very easily, and will make a few young healthy people very sick, and kill a few. The benefit of the vaccine likely far outweighs any 1/ million risk. The real problem are these anti vaccine lunatics who blame every medical condition under the sun on vaccination. It has somehow though become politically incorrect to tell people with " alternative" views on health that they are wrong/ even when their theories are based on pure quackery. This is where our public health leaders have failed. If we vaccinated the majority of the population, dozens of lives will likely be saved, the problem is through misinformation, waffling and general disorganization, combined with our media giving equal time to anti vaccine alarmists and fear, as to qualified medical and scientific professionals, the public is afraid and has no confidence in the shot.
The h1n1 vaccine offers 90%. Protection. Period. I'm getting one.

Just checkin...

Do you work in the medical field? :p

Seriously... and I think I made this point before already... WTF is it about "the flu shot" that the medical profession and politicians are literally PUSHING it on us!? They are worse than fucking drug dealers FFS! Open any paper, magazine, listen to the radio, watch TV, it is literally EVERYWHERE- promoting everyone to get one! WTF!

The politicians are pushing it on you because:

1) They have spent a billion dollars ( Ontario alone expects to spend $650 million) on it and would hate to see it "wasted";
2) The media has whipped the public into a lather and they want to be perceived as "doing everything posssible";

I will probably get a shot even though its not that dangerous for someone with my profile. I travel on planes a fair bit and last year I got the seasonal flu 3 times and was sick for a week each time. The swine flu seems to be more contagious than the seasonal but milder.

Can we send the bill to WHO ?

Heaven, definately Heaven
I heard if you get the swine flu vacination, your balls shrink and if you get swine flu, your balls get larger. So, you choose which way you want to go.

Thanks for making my point! Politicians and the medical industry LOVE THIS SHIT! The media blow it all out of proportion and it gives them (medical people and politicians) free reign to spend like drunken sailors and the bill does NOT get sent to the WHO... it gets sent to the US! (see below) :mad:

WHO = World Health Organization
US= you and me... the taxpayer

Touche!

I just get real irritated about this whole thing... Maybe if I was a "sickly type" I would feel differently about it... But I'm not, so screw it. LOL!

Where's the sunshine you promised me yesterday BTW...

There's a certain weather girl I'm having a heart to heart talk to after dinner tonight. I'll have you answer in the morning.

Two answers come to my mind, even though I wasn't the one making any promises that I wasn't prepared to keep: one answer is a bit vague - something about someone having blown it somewhere - up your ass, I think is the correct phrase. Yes, he was blowing sunshine up your ass.

The other is that the sunshine is very close, just a few kilometres away from you. Straight up, just above the clouds and rain.

And now, Back to the thread ...

Why did Inside Edition (tabloid journalists) cover this story and not the MSM?
Really makes you wonder.

CNN has some good commentators but otherwise, not the greatest news source.
I hope Ted Turner comes back to CNN, he said he wants to

Maybe the flu shot is being recommended to - not "pushed on" - the public because of the overall health benefits to a population, and yes, because if that population receives said health benefits, it is less of a drain on the purse strings. Health and economics = win-win. That said, I probably won't get the shot because I am a lazy bastard. But I see its benefits, especially to "at risk" sub-groups in the population, and it's no coincidence that I am not in one of those sub-groups. My laziness is not fatal, in other words.

To be frank, I have little time for arguments against something that depend entirely on the attribution of a conspiracy theory. If you had a REASONED objection to something you would not need to wheel in a conspiracy theory to make your point.

Indeed, there are arguments against vaccination, of any kind, that have nothing to do with conspiracy theories and everything to do with risk analysis about possible side-effects and also population genetics (that vaccination reduces genetic diversity and thus leaves organisms susceptible to truly virulent strains of bacteria and virus). But that's a real world debate with serious argumenst on either side, not this juvenile conspiracy theory stuff.

I've said it before and I will say it again, all you folk bleating about being told what to do truly sound like dude's with serious daddy issues. Wa wa wa, don't tell ME what to do, I know it all, even though I've never done any actual research into the matter . . . wa wa wa

What conspiracy theory are you referring to?

Maybe the flu shot is being recommended to - not "pushed on" - the public because of the overall health benefits to a population....
I did not elude to such a thing. I simply said the government loves this kinda thing because it gives them more excuses to take more of our money, and the medical industry perpetuates it because they ARE the benefactors of the $$$.

No conspiracy... just self preservation...

Splitting hairs, my friend, splitting hairs. Though they can be separated: it's not a lock-in that Government and the medical industry benefit from "this kind of thing", because bad press is bad press, and impacts on perceived integrity and trustworthiness. It is, in other words, a risk to tell a large, heterogeneous population what to do. So not simply self-preservation. That leaves your argument and the other daddy-issue clones just a conspiracy theory.

Someone give me a good objection to vaccination and I'll listen. Otherwise I'll just make fun of you. I'll shit stir when you're being silly, but will take you seriously when you're informed.

Very, very, very few people have a negative reaction to a flu vaccine, and very few of those have a serious negative reaction. On the other hand the flu, even a "mild" case, can put you on your ass for a week, and has a small but real chance of killing you.

In other words you have a better chance of dying not getting the vaccine, than getting it.

This is especially true for guys like Cycleguy who have a strong, healthy immune system. H1N1 actually hits people like that harder than it hits other people, for some unknown reason, and at the same time Cycleguy has a better chance of fighting off any rare negative impact of the vaccine.

Moreover the more people who receive the vaccine, the fewer people there will be who get the flu in the first place. Left unchecked H1N1 would eventually infect near 100% of the population and kill something like a half a percent of everyone.

Widespread vaccination, especially of people in key roles--people who have the potential to spread to many, many people--will stop the spread of the virus and result it infecting a far smaller number of people. That will result in fewer net deaths in society as a whole.
