Ageing isn't fun, it's the wurst, THE WURST.

When the endocrinologist told me I was a diabetic, I went into a funk. For awhile I was getting enough exercise but my blood sugar spiked at 9. I tried the hypoglycemic diet, it made me miserable, too difficult to follow - and my blood sugar was still over 7. I went in a different direction. Most people lose their quality of life, they become vulnerable to cancer by developing a fatty liver. Most of the foods that aid your liver, I'm eating already (olive oil, rapini). The key is to avoid processed food, no soda for me...I don't mind.

It's working, in the last 10 days my blood sugar has been consistent, going over seven once.

sorry to hear man. Glad you are being proactive and smart about it

Rodney Dangerfield would take questions from his audience. A hot young woman asked, "Rodney do you find it hard getting up in the morning".

His reply: "Honey I'm lucky if I can find it in the morning, at my age I'm envious of a stiff wind".

I have been there for 5 years now. At first I did very well, getting numbers well under 7, but over time, I relaxed my diet and the numbers crept up. By the way, the only number that you can rely on is the A1C. It tells the true story.

It is easy to be good for 3 months but hard to keep it up for years.

Also, type 2 diabetes always slowly get worse over the years. It never gets better.

Are you on Metformin or stronger medicine?

Metformin was brutal on my stomach, made me belch like a T-Rex.

I'm on Forxiga, the endocrinologist is taking me off Tranjenta for Ozempic. Since I'm semi-retired, I can stand to lose weight. When I was doing my labour relations work, no one took a pencil necked geek seriously during negotiations. The work I contributed to the Group Health Plan is paying dividends now BIG TIME.

Dr. Evans is right about the fructose/glucose parabola. For example I had a O Henry Bar for dessert, the next morning I got a 9.7 Blood sugar index . A few days later I had a maple walnut banana bread slice for dessert, the next morning I had a 7.4 BSI.

I don't know what you are referring to ' Dr Evans'.
I am a chemist and I know the sugars as described by Chan.
For a diabetic, the important issue is to avoid simple carbohydrates, as found in sugars and starches, i.e refined bread, rice and potatoes and sadly pasta. Complex carbohydrates are good, as in whole grains, vegetables etc.

I may myself have to graduate from Metformin to Ozempic, my doctor is enthusiastic about Ozempic.

Be careful about the finger prick glucose measurements. They are subjective. You tell yourself what they means. A1C is objective.

I can live without rice, living without pasta and polenta is a tragedy. My favorite dish is sausage and rapini on a bed of polenta.

I meant Dr. Berg...not sure where I got Evans.

The Mayo clinic has published some excellent books for diabetics, " The essential Diabetes book" and "The diabetes diet book"

Highly recommended.

On my last visit to my doctor's office, a Mary Brown's Chicken was setting up to open across the parking lot.

Mayo website is quite resourceful. Refined Mono-sugars need to be substituted more with Poly-sugars, increasing the ratio gradually.
Plant based Roughage/ Fibre needs to be added to give the stomach a feeling of fullness, so that we consume less of Mono-starch overall.
Daily blood glucose can be affected by body variables, so HbA1C is more reliable over a span of 10-12 weeks.

I just had a fart, I ate too much zucchini walnut bread yesterday, got an 8.2 BSI this morning. First time I've been in the 8 range since early March. Looking on the bright side, before the Fatty Liver Diet, I probably would have scored in the 11 range.

Xix, I made time to watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, it was on National Geographic Channel awhile back. Very positive and informative but I'll stick to my bamboo steamer. Steamed veggies make for drab eating but they keep you full for a long time.
