However I did see a variation of the Colt Firearms ad in front of a firearms shop this Christmas.

I don't get it... what's wrong with these ads? I think any of them would find a welcoming audience by today's standards.
It's not the audience, 4tees. It's the client and how you save their face!

You make an interesting point.

Today's ads are the same (well, except for cocaine and gun commercials, and cigs ads telling you how healthy it is).

They're just more subtle about it.

For example, commercials for household cleaning products still show predominantly women using the products; they're just geared towards women buying the products instead of men buying the products for women to use.

Things may have gotten worse; it looks like at least in the old days, men at least went to the store and bought the stuff; while now, the women go out and buy it, AND use it at home.

It's true. Cleaning/household products still predominantly show women in the ads. I know men who are much bigger clean freaks than me, lol. But then again beer and car commercials still seem very geared towards men.

I think you could probably find gay cruises today....but they would be a little different from what the original advertisers had in mind.

My two favorites are the one telling Mom's to drink beer for the benefit of their baby and the one saying to start your kid on cola as early as possible. Different times indeed.

Gendre roles and family structure have changed tremendously over the past 70 years. Who's to say that in another 70 years there may not be a return to the roles of yesteday?
No, not with our fucking luck.
Judging by the trajectory of the changes men in 70 years will be stripped of voting rights and treated as farm animals.
