XP and Max Ram

I just got a new computer with XP on it - I wanted more than 4 gb of ram but I was told xp only recgnizes a max of 4.

Vista or Windows 7 are supposedly able to recognize more than 4gb ram

Is there any way to get XP to use more than 4. I will put Windows 7 on it once it is released.

You need a 64-bit OS and a 64-bit processor to make use of the 4GB+.

You need 64-bit XP, Vista, or Windows 7.

I believe the Intel Quad Core's are 64-bit and the AMD Phenom.
