xcom global wifi Hotspot - anyone use in Toronto - Niagara - Hamilton areas

Xcom global has a well reviewed Hotspot that I am considering for use in Ontario as a back up to sometimes poor hotel room and when in car.

For my 12 days it gets fairly expensive at $14.95/day but supposedly provides at least in Toronto area about 17Mb down using 4G. I have a service that does not have roaming in Canada, however shares with T mobile the cell system that supposedly has service in Canada with someone.

It appears that Xcom uses Rogers in most of Ontario but from the link it seems only 3G slow speeds.

For those not familar with these hot spot devices, very small, fits in pocket and has roaming agreements with various carries in like 120 countries (including Canada). It simply bridges sending out a wifi signal which I can use on my laptop or smartphone anywhere. Including just walking down a street or in car.

I won't be downtown which may have better coverage but in Mississauga near Square One.

I might be way off the mark here but I've got unlimited data with Wind and use the WiFi hotspot capability of my smartphone to bring internet to my portable. I've have downloaded substantially more that 17 Mg and my monthly phone bill is ~ $50 (about 3+ days of your ~ $15/day rate). Given this, I'm not sure what the attraction of xcom is.

If I'm missing something, please educate me.

The problem is I have MetroPCS at $40/month with two gigs. However, it does not have roaming in Canada! Even though, I believe T-mobile is in Canada, and Ontario and MetroPCS use the T-mobile system. But apparently not in Canada. I rarely use cell line in Phoenix since I have an office in home and rarely go out and it switches to the home Wi-fi for free. But when traveling want to have the cell option especially if hotel wi-fi is slow or funky. I have had lots of problem with hotel wifi's in Canada even from the 4star ones. Most seem a lot slower than the17MBS I should get from the xcom hot spot.

I am going to confirm with the main office of MetroPCS to be sure. The local guy said they didn't have roaming agreements but he didn;t seem too sharp :)")

Sorry Dave - you did educate me. I thought you were referencing MB data not 17 MBS (speed).

xcom global now using and is great

Just arrived Niagara. reviews in Niagara section.

The Xcom global hot spot was easy to connect and quickly connected to Rogers and much faster than hotel Wi-Fi.

On Speedtests from hotel wi-fi was only getting 0.9-1.5mbs down and almost too slow to register up. Took forever to send out simple e-mail replies catching up on e-mail.

From Xcom global - about 10M down and 2M up. Which is a world of difference. Will be interesting what it will be in Toronto where I believe Rogers has 4G vs 3G I am connecting at in Niagara.
