I can understand leaving van Nistelroy and Ronaldinho off the teams, because of injuries, form, age etc. I can't see them adding much. Benzema is a big surprise, I am a big Henry fan, but I would have taken Benzema before Henry. The biggest surprise to me was Maradona leaving Cambiasso out, i don't get that one.
I don't have a specific team just looking forward to the action. Likely cheering on the teams with Arsenal players involved so I guess France, Spain, Ivory Coast and Holland at the top.
Totally agree, I think the Cambiasso thing is personal btw him and Maradona. Benzema thing is weird, I mean they chose Cisse for god sakes. Henry is a legend as you said but he has seen better days.
I hope we get a new champion this year.
Both Argentina and France have so many talented players, but somehow I'm afraid Maradona and Domenech might just manage to screw up both of their chances of winning the World Cup. That'll be a shame!

Can Brazil win the World Cup with four of it's five defensive starters plying their trade in an inferior league? Only Dani Alves (Barcelona) plays in a proper league. The rest; Julio Cesar, Lucio, Maicon (Inter); Juan (Roma) play in the dilapidated Serie A.
For myself, this will be a relaxed World Cup. I don't expect the Azzurri to get beyond the round of sixteen. Lippi hasn't turned the defense over fast enough and most of the championship players no longer have legs.

Maicon and Lucio are two of the best defenders in Europe. People kill me talking about which is the better league, the fact of the matter is that Serie A and Bundesliga are competing for the Champions League next Saturday.

France's call up can be explained with just one word, either "idiot" or "Domenech", take your pick, they mean the same.
My boys, Portugal, won't go far this year. Five of our top players are coming off injuries and though I think he's competent, Queiroz is not made for the big chair. With luck we'll limp through to the second stage, and then Ronaldo can get started on his tan.
Even without Ballack, Germany could do it. Though Italy is too old this year and Brazil is without it's typically brilliant roster, you can never completely count them out. I don't this, year, it could be a smaller team which would be great.

Apparently some company did some statistical report and reckon it is England's year. Who is going to score the goals besides Roooney. Ballack is a huge loss for Germany and i think you can write them off. I would like to see Argentina only because I am a huge fan on Maradona. Portugal have a strong side but they seem to choke as well in the big games. I think I have a man cruch on Ronaldo...
Choke in big games? No I don't think we do. Every WC and Euro game is huge.
As for the state of our team, well let me put it this way...this team has good bones, it could be a good team as it has a pretty good mix of youth and experience. But as I said above, Pepe, Carvalho, Mendes, are all carrying injuries. Pepe is crucial to us, and being rushed back after a bad knee injury. He's a monster player, but I think it's asking too much of him to get back into WC form in a month with no competitive games to play. As for the rest of the team, Alves, Ronaldo, Nani, Coentrao and Simao are bright spots...the rest are second raters or showing no hunger. I would like to see Australia do even better than last time (got beaten unluckily by Italy)...perhaps against Germany they will do well (with Ballack out), but this group (D) is probably the tightest in the competition?
