Who would you call?
a) 311 for a social worker
b) 911
c) BLM
d) Your local city councillor

Impossible to know without knowing why they were called. But I can see a good case to send in a social worker WITH a cop in cases of mental anguish .Perhaps body armour but in white with a red cross. In any case, no one knows what the exact policing model is for the future, however I think most people agree it can be MUCH MUCH better for ALL stake holders. Police have a high suicide rate and PTSD. Is there a way we can lower the violence and confrontation in their jobs so they don't burn out for example. A lot of people are suffering with the current model. Cops, public, society...there MUST be a better way. There ALWAYS is a better way.

Apparently the deceased male was trying to light a fire in the house before police intervened.

The red cross will make an excellent target for the nut jobs.

Police tend to do a poor job when dealing with mental illness. in cases where there are known mental health problems (like in this case https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toro...dre-campbell-police-shooting-family-1.5602503) the first responders should only get involved if there is an immediate threat to life and wait for someone with training (whether police of social worker) to take charge.

In the story I linked, the guy was in crisis and called the cops himself to be taken to the hospital and despite the police having numerous mental health calls on the guy he ended up getting shot.
